I don't either - what I see going on more and more is people doing what they think is popular rather than what they think is right, and I just don't understand that behavior.

Fellas. In the interest of having less negativity on the site, this thread will soon be getting locked. I spoke with Matty, and asked him to please start a new thread about his 288XP covers. I'm hoping he can post a thread that has links to his covers....and his excellent case splitting tools, without any mention of any YouTubers. Of course he is busy at the moment drilling into people's teeth.....but said he would work on the new thread this evening, or tomorrow.

I would like to take a minute to talk about the forum, and the direction it has taken. First off......I take full responsibility for my part in creating a negative atmosphere. As they say, the fish rots from the head.

At the beginning, I thought it best to allow things play out in full view of the membership. It seemed that having transparency, and allowing anyone who wanted to to express their thoughts and opinions would be best. I will be the first to admit that I might have been wrong about that. Threads like the Kenny thread that were just recently locked probably should have been shut down much sooner. In hindsight, maybe starting it in the first place was wrong.

I just hate to see anyone taken advantage of, and always wind up being tipped off by someone to bad behaviour. Usually I am already sensing that something ain't quite right about the individual. Then other members confirm it. When this happens I try to take some time to vet the accusations, but once I'm sure that yes.....this did in fact happen, I've always called it out in public. To date....I've yet to be badly wrong about any accusation I've come forward with. BUT.....I think in the future, I'll do it privately.

These threads are not a good look for OPE. The moderation team and I are going to try to do better.

I completely agree with that direction. Ultimately, any internet forum's growth and success depends on a steady influx of new blood - and as David pointed out, viewing a pitchfork
party from the outside isn't inviting. But, the moderation team here has been doing a good job - it's just time for a tune-up is all.

The HOW we go about it could stand some polishing

But the WHY we go about it is a valid part of the process

I am not talking about the tar and pitchforks AFTER someone gets outed

I am talking about how people who have been burned or seen others get burned get their radar tuned up and sort through the layers of BS some of these folks who have been outed have spread

They SEE the lies and the smoke and mirrors well before others do and for the good of the group they do their best to expose and chase out the scum

I think that's a vital part of any herd and it shouldn't be left to one man to carry that weight

Some folks on here have done a LOT of damage and finally been outed, and I get a sense that there are some members that saw it coming, hesitated for whatever reason, and then after the carnage they felt bad for not speaking up earlier

JMS fooled a lot of people for a long time and it took several key players to put the pieces of the puzzle together and get the herd circled up and horns pointed out

Yes, lets try to be a bit more dignified (I shouldn't throw stones) but the process of culling our own herd is a group activity

I have no intending of letting anything or anyone slide by on my watch. It's the after effects of this process that I would like to work on.

For instance, we really don't need 25 pages of busting BBR's balls. Personally, I could care less about any YouTube personality. But those who like to watch that stuff surely get tired of seeing us talk down about them.

In the future, we would like to get this stuff reeled in sooner, and off the front page.

No....this ain't me getting soft. It's us trying to keep our forum alive and growing.
