Assuming the number tag is black, that means 1991 week 22, so some years into 281xp production.

Awesome. The tag is black. Thanks a lot. I figured the tag would say 281XP but only say 281. Funny that husqvarna told me it was a pre-XP saw.

I ran that 281 today it pulls harder than his 390 husq. That 281 hauls ass.

You can buy a oem top end for under 200.00. Don't quote me but I think I was quoted 175.00

I wasn't aware that the 288 top end was still available new. But depending on price I'm of course interested in a used one.

Finally put the 24 on the 281 with a brand new roll of full skip stihl chain and didn't even get to run it.
