the 281 wore me out starting it today lol it should make it interesting when you mod the muffler on it or decide to get a 288 top end.

Well, the statement is silly in the world of engines. It just is a popular statement that never really was true unless all other factors were the same, and then the point was lost anyway (they are close to that in the case of the 281 vs. the 288, but likely not 100%).

There is a long list of other factors than pure displacement involved in developing both the torque and power output of an engine. Those other factors started developing very early in the history of combustion engines.

In many cases, those other factors directly replace a larger displacement - there is no way around that fact.:coleman:
