Those 2xx series Huskys have been overlooked in recent years I feel, it's the " Oh, they are too heavy, the AV is outdated, they aren't fuel efficient, blah, blah, blah" People have forgotten why those saws ruled in the Eighties, they just plain haul the mail.
im going to keep my eyes open for the two series in my area and anywhere else i can find one.
i did pick up a 257 husq the other day but it needs a lot but does run.

True Joe. Other than the anti-vibe I don't think 266's have any apologies to make when run today. When looking at older saws, there's two ways to view them. First, how did they stack up against what was on the market in their time. Second is how well do they hold up when compared to today's saws. (One reason I think the Jonny 70E is one of the best ever, but that's another story.)

This is a nice clean 266SE that I ran last weekend. Strong running saw that will get some more trigger time this Sunday. Left it stock except for opening up the muffler outlet a little bit.

Well put Bob, my feelings exactly. Thought I had a 70E lined up, but my neighbor traded it off for a 2250, said he didnt think I would want it since it had a broken flywheel screen and leaking base gasket. but that is all that was wrong with it.

There was an ol' gyppo logger not too long ago had four 266's standing in a rack behind the cab of his truck. Surely he knew what he had and was working for him. An older friend of mine that started out in the woods with gear drives literally went to his grave thinking that 266se he had was the best saw in the world. Yeah he knew there were better ones out there, but what he had was more than wonderful for him. A bit extreme, but makes the point. I've also tried to buy 266's from people, and they just flat won't give 'em up. A friend of mine bought a brand new saw earlier this year, he still had me fix up his old 266se, and when I got it running good for him, he was all smiles. So I guess it's all perspective, or the fact that none of the folks I mentioned have read the internet to know any different. Just like a leopard can't change its spots, the 266 is just a good all around saw, and always will be. Picture is of saw I repaired for friend earlier this year.

Well, here's a couple more. Logger brought these in yesterday. They are his Dad's saws and I'm going to get them running for him. Just like the guy in Stump's post, there's nothing quite like a 266 for this guy. Not too pretty at the moment, but they are in decent shape for the most part. We''ll call this the "before" pic. I'll post a few more in this thread as the project moves along.

While I'm sure Spike60 has a whole lot better handle on what's available than I do, I've found that between Husqvarna, Aftermarket, and Used parts market, just about anything on these 2xx series saws can be repaired. If you need something in particular, surely people here can help steer you in the right direction.

Haven't had any problems getting any parts for my 266 SG rebuild. Dealer said the master gasket kit was nla and then it showed up anyway .

All those 2xx serie saw parts start to be NLA now, it's pity since those saws where some of the best Husky ever have made.
I've delayed my 266 project for a long time since I've been busy with 262's, but one of those days....

Yeah, places like this is where we'll be able to help each other out on these projects. Some 2xx families are supported better than others. Regarding the chassis we are talking about here, availability is marginal to poor on the early twin coil saws for both OEM and aftermarket. And I'd rate it very good on the later twin coil saws for both OEM and AM. Jonsered specific parts for this chassis is also poor. But as we are discussing here there are mix and match options to solve most problems.

A lot of the parts I have ordered, had Brasil on them for country of origin. So we have the South American market to thank for manufacturing 2xx series saws. Jungle doesn't stand a chance against them Husky's. Here's a link to Husqvarna Brasil, interesting the saws they have down there. http://www.husqvarna.com/br/produtos/motosserras/

Here's another thing we have to deal with on the later 272's. The HD filter on the left is NLA from Husky and there are no AM options that I know of. The early "box" set up on the right is still available. That filter was used on 262's, and low top 394's. So, plenty of filters out there both OEM and AM. But converting to the box set up requires about $50 in parts and those clips are annoying IMO anyway. So, other options...........Using a 61 filter holder and the 61/266/288 air filter is quick and easy. problem is that the air intake snorkel will interfere with the top of the filter. It can be cut to make the needed clearance.
