When we are at putting large carbs on the 262, why not go one step further - have anyone tried putting a HD-12 on that saw model, or studied the possibility?

With my eyes...
Biggest transfer channel is KS by huge margin.
Followed by the non decomp Mahle
The one with smallest transfer channel is decomp Mahle.

I would say KS and non decomp Mahle is more smooth also

I will try to shoot some pictures later today on PTO and flywheel side.

Both KS and non decomp Mahle jug have a shaved are on flywheel side while 48ZN15 dont have shaved area.
The first decomp jug to Husky, Mahle 48ZK3 didnt have shave, but I think Husky changed their flywheel at that time with maybe a tad more rounded flywheel to prevent it.
I figured out this with the 48ZK3 jug since one of my flywheel hit the jug.

I got to study those jug more to see if 48ZN15 has different casting to prevent the flywheel issues.....

It would be easy for me to lay a tig bead across the flattened area and eliminate it. I will have to trim the flywheel for its use though.

For those who doesnt has RA handpiece and wants to go without gasket, some of those 48ZN15 jugs has TR# almost 1mm higher compared to KS.
Dropping the jug by 0.8mm your TR# is almost spot on compared to KS.
Lifting EX by 0.8mm and you have got a jug who is more or less spot on in timings vs KS and non decomp Mahle

Al, I'll see if I can find both flywheel types and shot some pictures for you, they are though xpg flywheels.
Maybe the new style flywheel has rounded corners, but we can study them together and figure it out

Will shot pictures of jugs and flywheels later today for you

Are you talking about the narrowest points in the transfers, or just about the intakes to them (that were illustrated by @super3).

when you study those pictures by super3, it's the transfer tunnel I speak about.
The one with smoothest and also biggest channel is KS by huge margin, followed by non decomp Mahle, and the one who isnt so smooth and smallest channel is the 48ZN15 (decomp).
Maybe that is the key for why HDA 87 was choosen on KS&Gilardoni while they went for the smaller HDA 120 on Mahles.
I am no porter so I dont know how much it mather

neither do I, dont know how much gain there is in this.
Those pictures doesnt really show how much more smooth the KS jug are compared to the other ones in the transfer area, it's really alot difference.

Now I gotta study my 254's lol

your pictures is fine.
Do you also has the same view as I have that decomp jug has a more narrow transfer channel compared to the non decomp jug, and that non decomp jug look more smooth shaped?
