I got that little v-stack adapter (to the elbow) and Uni filter on mine, super easy setup, no modding needed.
That's what I've got, couple of factory filters and a non modded plastic too. I'd like to run the factory setup but apparently it's a little more involved than bolting it on. Grease or soft cushy gasket or something.

what do you guys use to replace the old oil lines on these bad boys. I can find the one line coming from the tank with the bulge fitting but what about the other line?

I was thinking I could use some similar fuel or oil line and just cut it to fit. The one I tried yesterday still leaked. Might need some new clamps.

Anyone know without a lot of searching what the real differences between 298 and 2100 were?
Plastic Recoil cover , lighter 2 pawl Flywheel, and manual oiler , the recoil was the downfall. they fail to easily and 2 pawl, I have one I coverted to regular 2100 recoil,

I'll see if I can get it running good before I worry about upgrades lol

Ok, so I tried to heat up and bend the 2100 throttle rod today to make it work with the 394xp carb. It never fit great and when I thought I had it it would bind when pulling on the throttle. Ended up with a fairly straight rod and still no dice. Any suggestions? Good thing is I bought 20 on sale so I have 19 more tries 🤓

Was going to try the 394xp carb to see if I could get a little more out of a ported version. I also kinda ruined my 2100cd card so I will need another if I do not use the 394xp carb.

Maybe figure it out with brazing rod then match it up. That stuff bends, unbends, and bends again pretty well, but holds a bend too. There's a word for that probably. The type I've got does anyway.
Got a 2100 carb selection you can pick from if it comes to that.

I have used bicycle spokes for throttle rods, after bending it, temper it with heat and then oil bath...worked out great for an 075 with a NLA throttle rod (the long one, not the short one).

Never considered doing that. Should work well and there are different gauge spokes to choose from. Brazing rod is a little on the thick side.
