This is what the filter looks like after 2 gallons fuel ran thru saw in the past two days. I’ve been meaning to snap a pic of the filtration aspect of the saw for a while. Never did anything but blow it out with compressed air every couple days or so. Maybe I’ll hit it with brake cleaner sometime soon, but it doesn’t seem to need it yet. The filter would probably need a foam cover for what the west coast guys cut in the dusty fir bark like they mentioned. But for most applications the filter works pretty well.

Looks like they finally smartened up with a rubber sealing surface.

i dont feel like reading 48 pages of posts, but have you had any running problems?

The plug failed last month and I replaced that. I also replaced the fuel filter. I did have to tweak/bend the strato linkage wire to get my throttle response the way I wanted it. But that was from the strato linkage wire wearing in its hole on the carburetor from use. I’m not really sure how many hours I have on the saw to be honest, it would be interesting to hook it up and see at some point. I know it’s got some serious hours on it now. But other than those things I mentioned no running issues or failed parts.

Oh almost forgot: I dropped a tree on it and had to pick it off the saw with the machine. Not my finest moment lol. Only damage.... bent handlebar and a mild bruise on the plastic recoil housing. New handlebar and back in business. That bent handle sits on the shelf as a reminder to me.

The guy I’m working with just blew the decomp out of his 572, stripped the threads in the head. It’s only the second time I’ve seen this happen, funny enough the other time was on my 462 this past winter.
Oddly enough I've never had a decomp blow out of any brand saw.

Clearly the 572 has a good deal more power … but I'm surprised that the old saw has better low end torque!

Was that a regular 046, or one of the early 046 Mags with the factory dp cover?
