I do have another genorator with one lead. There was two different saws in the box of parts I got. Maybe I'm using the wrong one.
One was a 2172 and the other was a 2163.

I had to think a bit when I saw the old wiring drawings from JRed 2156/2159, and how it is compared to my 372's.

All my 362 and 372's has one wire generator, but the switch has two choices, so I can't verify 100% how the two wire system work on your 372......but, if it's the same as they had on 2156 your female wire goes to the carb heat elements (they are serie wired), while the other wire go to the switch and in serie wiring as always

Give me 10 min and I will upload the sweedish WS for the wiring
The 372 switch my 372's has:

just currious, do those two generators has the same resistance?

I'll try to check the type switch I have, how the wiring go on the type XPG I have and make one drawing over that type system for you. Will get it done as fast I can borrow one electrical tool from my neightbour.

Wouldnt surprise me if all those heat elements are the same on both those two systems, I may have a spare switch someplaces....

I was digging through my parts box last night.
I have one 385XPG case and an 385xp case. The XP case is NOT drilled and tapped for the generator.
I have never seen a different part number for a XPG case.
thanks for checking it on 385 and your find is very interesting, I fear it count for many 3xx serie saws.
It's the same with 42 special /246 back in 97, same crankcase # G vs non G, but still two different crankcases one for each, and it probleby count for 242 as well.

I have an 394 that I'm going to try and check over the weekend to see if it's drilled or not.

I have a bunch of cases in my box and the only one that wasn't drilled was the 385.
365, 2163, 2172 and one more that I cant rember what it was off the top of my head.

I saw this 242 XP crankcase for sale in Germany, year 95 week 30, it do not have threads for the generator.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Motorsage-Ke...482915?hash=item33bc4cd0e3:g:GhUAAOSwSWJXRXxV
When it goes to 42/242/246 Husky used two different cases G and non G.
If anyone want to rebuild their 242XP over to 242XPG it may be a very complicated rebuild since those generator threads goes through the whole crankcase, anyone having those plans should first pull the flywheel and see what you really have.

I am working on converting a 550xp to xpg and while the generator holes are on the xp chasis they were not tapped. Just smooth holes. So i guess husky had some that went an extra step of tapping for g models and xp models skipped on down the line

alternative PTo bearing.
The only way I can see is to make one bearing & seal socket, the bearing wont be so strong.
I pressed in one 6201 bearing but there wasnt enough space for a proper seal system.

that sucks, but they had drilled the holes for those two generator screws?

Yes they were drilled so it was no problem gettng them ready for screws. I have the generator installed and flywheel on.

awesome! I'll check and setup my 550xpg and give you wiring system.
I sized up my 550xpg case, thread holes are 16mm deep but threads are only 9mm deep.
If I had to drill I wouldnt go deeper then 16mm, not much meat left

I had a 545 case that the holes stripped due to being to shallow. I am glad you got yours fixed.
