Square filing by hand is witch craft.

It sure is..... It's been eatin up quite a bit of my time lately.

Like what you cutting? What kind of power head? Posting the perfect picture and worried about the other 83 cutters? File does good one the left side but is fubared on the right side? You are faster but is it good enough? Did the port job look less fabulous after the filing? Been there.......

Yup that's about it...ha ha ha! But if in the end I get a chain that I like the feel of its worth it...speed be damned.

Witchcraft is watching Mr Mike file a chain on the bar, still mounted on a mill.

Im happy with my square but its comfortably mounted in my vise when I file it.

I wasn't talking about "rubbing" tie straps. I'm talking about "holyshit. I just filed half way through my tie strap". I got a little carried away doing right hand cutters right handed (blind side)

It depends on what file yer using. Here is the tie straps from 404 with that "dang, I can't believe it's lasted this long" 6 sided triangular file

Touched up my chain this morning...should I clean out the gullets more? This is a work chain, not race. Any other advice is appreciated also.

The cutter looks pretty good to me. Looks like it should be pretty durable and cut fast.
The gullet doesn't look to bad but I'd clean it out a bit more.

Are you using a jig? I ask because of that perfectly straight line in the gullet...dang that's perty. Haven't been able to duplicate that free handing.
