I went thru all this too, it drove me mad, I took the Simmington cure.

More side plate that is straight. At least that’s my preference. Finally got my hands on square file
But the only one i could find is goofy
Anyway, quickly grabbed an old chain and gave a shot.

Another try, i think this one is a bit better.
And now, im hooked !
Any tips?
I'll second this. I got way betterer at square filing while in the field after I got the simington.I think having the grinder will make you a better filer. You can see what it’s supposed to look like
Let me rephrase that..."You Husky guys and your .058 guage...!" No Stihl guy in their right mind would be running that![emoji13][emoji1787]
Mainly because Stihl doesn't make bars in .058 that i know of!
Hater....Throw those both down the driveway!
And after filing on a bunch of teeth til there was almost nothing left I tried to make a "race" tooth . .

Seemed like the best use of the 28" full-comp chain I ordered by accident.Huh!
Filing a whole EXL loop away into nothing for practice?
Blasphemy!
So You are practicing to square file without being able to try the results, or do You have a suitable bar but don't like full comp?Seemed like the best use of the 28" full-comp chain I ordered by accident.
