If it is running well.......I wouldn't worry.

Here's what I've noticed on the ones that need more fuel. You will come off of a big cut and the saw will hurt around for idle and sound "off"......
I have a 562 that does something like that, a long cut - like when I noodle/rip a log to fit it in a 9" chipper - and the idle "hangs up" roughly 1000rpm too high before it drops back to normal after 10 seconds or so. Only does it when it's above 30C (80f ?), so I was thinking it was heat related. Hmmmm.
Thanks.

I've seen a lot of weird issues with the 562. Not nearly as many since they started using the EL48......

possible could it be from "fines" going through the intake? Problem with 661 as I see it, is the filter can't be tightened down like the 660. So I always see fines under the filter. What I started to do was put tacky oil on the back of the filter or around the intake mount to trap the fines.

I don't think so Julian......I see the same wear pattern on new saw with the only run time being the test run at the factory.

Yes sir. That is exactly what it is. This new coil "control module" fattens the saw up a bunch. The bog was caused by it being too lean on the low side.....

The strange thing is that not all the "old" modules were acting this way.
Nice to know Thanks.

Wild generalisation - but it's interesting that the stihl fixes are in the coil (I'm assuming software) and husky it's carbs (hardware)

Husky has the software in the carb. Stihl just has a solenoid on the carb.

I think this is hilarious! Thanks for sharing, I don't have a 661 or a need for one but love a good laugh.

My experience with the 661 is good. Now if i use a 660 the vibration makes me want to throw it. I work the crap out of my saws, and the 661 is where it is. I have always liked a good running husky 395, and the 661 is kinda a mix between the 660 and 395

You can reduce vibration in modern Stihls by making the piston lighter.

Even just idleing the ms660 in ones hand, you realise its a saw from a past generation. Is there much wieght difference between pistons in the 661 compared too 660? Arhhh saw details......its all in the details. I think guys like G.Bell advocated a chamfered piston skirt for better lubrication?
