Wood for Good Charity Cut

For all those who plan on attending: September 16th beginning at whatever time you would like. I will be at the main site (lunch and afternoon cut) at sunrise with coffee. I can direct you to the morning site from there. The morning site is about 1/2 mile from that address. I am working on getting signs to lead you in from the highway, but the address and GPS coordinates are:

3785 Inman Road, Alpena, AR

36.342118 -93.243351 for GPS

When my neighbor (a good, lifelong friend) approached me about this, I told him I really wasn't up to cutting as much wood as he wanted. I told him I knew some guys (and gals) who might be able to help pull off something like this. I really didn't know if y'all would be willing to help on such short notice. I appreciate all of your offers for help and look forward to the 16th.

Bob and Jean Good were told about the event after a couple of folks had said they would try to make it. They said they'd never heard of anyone doing anything like this. They are very excited and I think some of their family is going to bring them to the site on the day of the cut. They wanted to be able to thank everyone themselves.
Is this on the same road as going to your house, Marc? The map looks real familiar.

Another milestone: o got an email from the Secretary of State's office telling me my company has been registered. Swift Solutions & Creations is a happening thing. Pictures of my first tree project using actual tree gear rather than rock climbing stuff:
Anybody know what kind of maple this is? It seemed kind of hard sawing it.

I wonder if it would be ok for firewood. I plan to mill a twenty foot beam out of the trunk

It was an easy climb. An hour in the tree, got all but three limbs down. Have to lower or redirect the last three. I'll be doing that with a bruised toe; watching the saw rather than the limb when separating out the brush on the ground...
I'll save you the pleasure of a pic of that.

I think red is part of the hard maple family.
Unlike silver maple, which belongs to soft maple family which makes terrible firewood IMO.

Hold on now Steve...

Any maple is good firewood..

Silver is just for "shoulder season"..

Like pine.

Red starts the "real" btu, and sugar maple rounds out the fantastic end of the btu curve.

So a bit of firewood and a serious beam it is. Each beam will be labeled with the species and whose yard it came from. I dunno if the walnut and mulberry will yield any lumber, but they'll sure keep the house warm. I got an old OWB for free; it is going in the basement right under the furnace trunk line, with a bit of ductwork modification. Gas bills should be a bit lower this winter...

Thomas is just reeeeeeally hoping that some of us will bring some Huskys so that he won't have to dig out his Stihls...
Don't worry @Hinerman, someone will have a saw there that you can run.

I'll be glad to run the poo out of some Husqys,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,at least until all the screws fall out.
