Question about rakers. For high horse power can you lower the rackers more? Also when I speed up the saw the chain will not bite. It just bounces off the wood. This is a hydraulic saw using 404 semi chisel chain. 32 inch bar.

You want about a 6 degree angle of engagement on the tooth.
For more positive feed, try a 50 degree tilt vs a 60 degree under the top plate.

I will see if I can find some numbers on the motor when I get home to night. No documentation with the machine. Chain speed is to fast with the hydraulics in high flow mode.

Still going through it and getting everything adjusted the way I would like it to run. Was used to process 10 inch soft wet pine logs.

Yeah, I'm thinking no more than 4000 rpm or so. Although I've seen piped 3120's use a 12 pin and spin 14,000 or so.
Not semi chisel though.

I am following you on the 50º tilt. But, explain the "6º angle of engagement" you speak of. Are you referring to the top plate angle, which is usually 30-35º?

No, I mean the raker to cutter height difference.
As the length increases between raker and cutter, the height differential between the raker and cutter must increase incrementally to retain the "angle of engagement ".

No wonder the chain skips off the wood. It does slow down once it starts cutting. As I said the previous own had it setup for speed.
