Happy Independence Day!
Got to try this thing out a few times. Fire, smoke, and noise. Almost as good as a chainsaw.

Worked on a big oak today. I had a problem with the bar tips locking up. The 36" bar tip locked up; went to the 28" bar and it eventually locked up; went to the 25" bar and it locked up also. It took me 45 minutes, 75 cuss words, and a half gallon of sweat to get the 36" bar to turn again. One cut and she was locked up again. It is a big oak so the bar is buried on all bars. WTF am I doing wrong and is there a solution? I am ready to order all hard nose bars and tossing these in the trash.

I have seen this happen before.
Only with Stihl brand bars and full comp chain always buried in large, sappy logs.

One if the frankinolys i built resists tuning. Replaced seals. Still resists.
On the premise that its taking air i took the jug off. So its either the gasketless joint between jug and case or its a leak between the carb header and the jug.
When rebuilt i deleted gasket. Done that on several other saws with no problems. I saw what could have been a break in the yamabond; not sure but could be. So i either try gasketless again or make a gasket from coke can. If i use coke can gasket do i need to use yamabond or can i do it dry?
Inspected the header block, couldnt see any cracks but an edge had chipped. When compared to the carb gasket it may have been leaking there. Went ahead and made new larger gasket that should cover it. Btw, have another header block but can see hairlinecrack from outside to the inside; would that cause lean condition if i used it?
Dont have pressure/vacuum tester which is why i havent tested it. Would have been a lot easier and more exact but i gotta use what i got or dont use what i dont got
Other than this issue and wear marks this is a solid saw. Thanks for any thoughts and recommendations

You got to grease the *s-word outta those things I use Lucas red thick and tacky that stuff hang in there roller nose bars can't take the heat without it especially on the bigger saws if your running 36 in bars then you obviously got power to turn it my super xl 925 will turn a brand-new 36 in bar and chain fast enough to burn the bearing right out of it and pull the sprocket through the bar ask me how I know lol

You need a saw with a thumb oiler along with the automatic.

I don't know. Stihl oilers are stingy, so they never seem to be oiling properly. I put the HO oiler on my 460 and 660, and still not enough oil for a 36" bar IMO. Also, when I got to the 25" bar, I took it off the 044 and put it on the 660 so it should have been getting plenty of oil.
