Thanks for the clarification, I knew trout were cold water fish, and had never heard of the cold killing them, therefore my question. In this pic I can make out what looks to be a curly tail and the ultralight line! Dang their pretty fish...
Powerbait worm, artificial only in this section right now as well. Usually don't use white but for some reason they like it. I have had those worms for so long that they are a little soft and don't last too long without tearing. Fun to catch but I don't really care to eat them, and with that light of line you have to keep your drag light. I have caught 7lb brown trout on that line as well in the past.

Good morning folks. It dipped to slightly below zero near daydreak. to -1f.
Now we might not get to double +f digits today, ah shucks, as I should do some rear brake pad replacement, and this will be an outside function without a heater/blower source.

Looks like we're going to have to replace the pump, and probably the drop pipe.
I've been fearing/dreading that for five years now.
Oomph, sorry to hear that. Hope it's tubing and not galvanized stick pipe, cannot imagine either is going to be fun in this weather.

Galvanized.......
Most likely gonna be buying schedule 80 pvc.

I'd like em to use flexible poly so I'd be more able to service it myself in the future, but I'm kinda stuck with whatever the man has on hand.

In my southeast corner oof the state I can get ground water at 25ft and many wells produce good and plentiful water at 160ft and usually go with 6inch casing.
Just comparing notes

190' total depth, pumps at 180'
6 inch casing.
Water level is around 80' he estimates.

I frequently think about the FoxFire books and the Well Digger. He said when you slap the wall and it jiggles ya best hurry up and finish digging and rock it up, ain't no fun digging a hole looking up and knowing if it comes down ya just have to stand there and take it 'cuz ya ain't got no where to run.
(My own words but you can get the gist of his thoughts)

Turns out old the pump was installed in 2004, so a pretty decent working lifespan I s'pose.

Also, the wire had a very bad spot about half way down the well......insulation gone, bare/corroded/green copper....... so the pump may still be okay....... but I decided since they already had the pump out it didn't make sense to NOT go ahead and install the new one.

My daughter, son and I put new pump and pipe in at the stamp a few years ago. Wasn’t too bad doing it but my well is only 67 feet deep. Put the pump at about 62 foot. Water level is normally about 20 foot from the top of the well. Also put in a bigger storage tank. I’m running a 20/40 pressure switch. The tank will hold more water at that pressure. 33 gallons if I recall. A 40/60 switch the tank hold about 20 gallons. I figured up one time at the water level in the pipe, so many gallons per foot in a 6 inch pipe I should be able to pump the well dry in three tank recharges. I cycled that thing 6 times and never pumped it dry. I figure it must be sitting in a cavern full of water or it has a really fast recharge rate.

Well is 500 foot deep, 100 foot casing, lined to 400 foot due to muddy water layer at 130'. 1.5HP 16GPM pump set at 165 foot with approx 65' to static water. When dug and before lining was installed it was putting out over 150 gallons per minute, they figured the lining dropped it to still over 75 GPM.
