Dig the roots this time of year while the sap is down and boil them for tea.yes. I think they make tea out of the leaves and/or roots.
Did the very thing as an adolescent. Even sold some at the to the local market.Dig the roots this time of year while the sap is down and boil them for tea.
This isn’t even that bad. They are calling for -35 to -45 wind chills for us. I’m sure northern Minnesota will see even worse.Every body needs to buckle up
I have heard the same thing. Just did a little digging into the story on it and they claim the safrole from the plants oil causes liver cancer. What they don't tell is that they experimented in lab rats in such high concentrations of it that would be ridiculous for a person to consume. Everything causes cancer if you ingest enough of it to choke a horse. I'll drink my occasional cup of tea and not worry.Did the very thing as an adolescent. Even sold some at the to the local market.
Somewhere I read it cause cancer.
B careful stepping out the door. One could find himself in the next county still holding the door handle.![]()
Used to go down to my Grandmothers farm and dig sassafras roots this time of year and store them in a tight lid glass jar. Goldie would make tea from them. Grandmother had a grove of sassafras trees behind the barn. Yea smells wonderful and tastes great. Need to find me some sassafras trees around the stamp.Dig the roots this time of year while the sap is down and boil them for tea.

Guessers are saying almost 50° again today before the bottom drops tonight. Looks like snow levels are all over the place with the forecasts, regardless looks to be a good weekend for staying inside.
We were at a charity cut in your area probably 10 years ago, I think it was at some church camp. Matt showed me and taught me how to identify Sassafras. You were the one who told me about making tea. It smells wonderful. Those were good times...Used to go down to my Grandmothers farm and dig sassafras roots this time of year and store them in a tight lid glass jar. Interestingly, Sassafras spreads through underground rysomes. When left alone the original tree spreads roots in all directions around it and every few feet a new tree springs up. When looking at a grove of them look for the tallest tree, somewhere in the middle of the smaller trees. That’s the parent tree. And technically they are all clones.
Got an extra tractor I can borrow? lolyea i plan to make money plowing this stuff, calling for 8-18" here. itll be a mad house here.
Do those trees make good lumber?Good day for outside work.
Everything went smoothly, didn't even smash the building with the two that were leaning over it.

Yellow pine makes decent lumber, not the best but generally pretty useable.Do those trees make good lumber?
