Morning all, 20° and windy. Seems to be the latest theme around these parts except for not being above freezing today. Holiday for us so 6 month dentist appointment followed by getting some farm diesel and hauling a load of hay. Getting a bit more coffee and loading the stove while I can relax a bit in the warmth.

Just looked at the forecast for the rest of the week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are going to be cold, single digit at night cold. Looks like I need to bring up some more dry wood this week and plan on snuggling with the stove next weekend.

I was planning on hunting again next weekend but after seeing the forecast, I have changed my mind.

I finished chunking up the 3 we got, mother took my son to the ER so he could get stitched up.

That sucks but on the bright side I did a really nice job sharpening up the knives.

I loathe cutting up frozen deer, next year processing will take place at the end of each days business.

Not a really bad cut I hope.

I nearly lost a finger to infection from a (tiny) cut while cutting deer in my teens.

3 stitches but it was deep. Local Dr. Office said they couldn’t do it so mother hauled him 30 miles to an ER.

X-rayed to make sure he didn’t get the tendon, no damage. They did find a piece of metal about 1/2” long in a different finger but he told them it wasn’t a problem, if he didn’t know it was there.

Dr. told him it looked like a scalpel cut it, so I got a compliment about the knife sharpening. 😂

Those little nicks while processing wild game can get infected pretty easily.

Awhile back the inbred neighbors put in new corners with railroad ties. I guess they thought that if my cows got out on the highway it would be OK. I was down tonight doing a little cleaning up starting at this corner and realized that they took off the wires I had connecting the fences together. Only thing keeping the cows in was the amount of briars that had grown up. Will rectify this during the week. Some people don't have two brain cells to rub together. Just another reason to dislike people in general.

Felt bad enough just from this infection index finger at the first of the year. Probably lucky I went to the doctor to get it taken care of as soon as I did. Got to love when you can't hardly stand up because the extra pressure in your hand makes it throb like mad. My blood pressure started jumping up on the 31st so I should have seen the signs.

It was just a little poke......only one drop of blood.
I think it would have been better if it had been a bigger opening so's it would have flushed out better.
I've sawed on myself with knives pretty good lots of times during meat processing and that's the only time it got seriously infected.
