Morning folks. 18f overnight and for the start of my day. I'm sure it will get a bit cooler as I take a couple of days AWAY from city lights and get bombarded with insecurity lights . . . At least there are some views that one can still observe an abundance of stars.

Morning all, 26° at 4 to start. When I got off work last night had to clean about an inch of white off my car and drove home in flurries. Waiting until light to see how we are now.
Been getting insurance quotes to check pricing and will be changing this week. Guy who rents west of the place is an agent and look like he can beat my current rates by a fair amount. Been hearing bit of a rumor and had it confirmed about the new neighbor to the south who showed up during our extracurricular activities in October. Kid was supposed to be buying all the land to the south and older landowner was carrying the loan for a bit. Somehow the buyer talked the owner into deeding a bit over 11 acres to him so he could build a house and the owner did. Buyer stopped making all payments at that time since the land was titled in his name. Balance went back to owner who was robbed of the 11 acres. Nice to know what kind of people these new neighbors are going to be.
There's a special place for people like that 🥵

Evening folks.

Quite brisk out there today....very refreshing. 👌

Went to Fordland to pick up the remaining junk from Saturday's auction.....stopped and grabbed 3500lbs of hog feed on the way by.20251202_145333.jpg20251202_145342.jpg

stopped at Shetlers in Seymour and got cheese and some real maple syrup to try out....if it's any good we'll be getting more on future trips.
my wife is a fan of vanilla, so I grabbed one of those too.

Well, the maple syrup ain’t indigenous to the Ozarks.. they may be importing it from Michigan or Vermont..
Usually spendy. But good..

Wisconsin....allegedly.
We used to get quite a bit of real maple syrup, but haven't been willing to afford it lately.
This stuff is 36 bucks for a half gallon, so maybe I'll start keeping some in stock.
I'm thinking it would be a very nice addition to our bacon curing recipe.
Southerners make cane molasses in stead of having sugar maple’s..
Sam grew sorghum in his garden the last couple years, got about a gallon of molasses this time around.

Morning all, chilly 28° right now. Been bouncing between awake and semi-asleep since 2:20 as usual. Full moon on Thursday, think I am going to try to see if walleye and crappie move onto the points early on Saturday morning with the extra light. Calves decided to make an escape route to the neighbors to the east yesterday. Happens when the fence is nail to trees instead of using posts. Makes the wire rot after a while and breaks easily. Patched that up in the dark after meeting up with the new insurance agent. Lots of extra coverage for what I was already paying State Farm.

Got to the place with trees yesterday afternoon.
There was a good bit of squaking going on in the lake yesterday. The lake is only partly frozen over for the time being.

So far there is 5-6" of compressed white stuffs that fell during the high winds end of last week.

And with the overnight dipping into single digits a bit of ice formed,

I'm believing there will be a good bit of additional ice being formed tonight with double digits below zero f .

Okay guys.....what in the world is this????

It was in with all those wood planes but......
Cast aluminum body, very heavy/thick "iron" and a seriously un-ergonomic "side handle"
I see no markings anywhere on it to give any clues.

Just a wild guess the first thing that comes to mind is a coopers plane. Might be called a croze plane as well. Think putting the groove inside the barrel to fit the lid.
