Morning all. Watched the temps increase from 3:30 this morning, already up to 52°. Anybody want a boat ride I will be at Ruark launching sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 Saturday morning. Going to be a leave whenever I wake up day.

Yes, until Feb 1. Then one can keep w/trout license.
10 years or so ago I got my lifetime hunting/fishing combo. I figured up what it would cost me over the years and it was cheaper to do it. Nice thing is it includes trout stamp and migratory bird for the state level.

Guessing the buzzards did most of the clean-up. Y'all have enough coyotes to make the kill, or possibly hit and not recovered by a hunter? Looks like some age on him, but otherwise healthy....well, was healthy...
I figure the coyotes, raccoons & possums were working on it. It wasn’t really stinking & I haven’t seen a vulture for a couple of weeks.

The coyotes will take fawns but have never seen them take a full sized deer unless it was injured.

I think someone shot it from the road, about 100 yards, then couldn’t find it in the corn.

I just did a quick search for arrows/holes.

It’s possible it had blue tongue/chronic wasting.

Youth season last weekend. Found these dumped along I-44 and a county road on Monday. Nephew has been finding others up where he is at. Cut the heads and the hams/loins and dump the rest somewhere. And the shear number of stands I see sitting over feeders is insane now. Guess I will need to start contacting the Conservation Department to get some of this stopped.

For the sake of hunting I hope youth were not involved with wasting resources like this. We're fortunate enough to have areas of the farm where we can waste the skin and bones after we process the deer and let the critters and worms do final clean-up. There have been times we've let others do the same, so long as they've ethically processed the animal. Cannot imagine being so inconsiderate as to just dump it on someone else. Perhaps trail cams to find out who they are and drop it back in their yard!

I usually take all the trim and cutaway from a deer and put it in a big pot.
Set it on the wood stove in the shop and let it simmer for a whole day.
Then I parse it out to the dog over the next month.
Best dog food ever.

With the cows in here I haven't seen the deer like I used to. Not too worried about that anyway with a couple freezers full of beef. Boy wants to go out so we will hit it a bit this year. Brother has land in CWD zone and from Jan 16 to Mar 14 it is brown it's down season there. Field dress and take to edge of property and call conservation. They will come pick up and have it processed into ground and you can pick it up when it is done for no charge. Test results usually come later.

At 3AM it was already 60°. Looks to hit 70° today and upper 60's tomorrow. Sunday the bottom drops out so I will get the stove loaded up in preparation. Got to get another load of wood out of Neosho on Sunday after lunch and hopefully bring home the tractor after I get the trailer unloaded. Side storm door was replaced last night, too expensive nowadays. 32" door is $20 higher than a 36", almost walked back into Lowe's after seeing that but it had to be done. Going to watch the sun come up on the water in the morning, be a nice change from watching it go up and down while working.

Morning everybody.
Staying home this weekend. Got too much stuff needs taking care of here.
Finish the big trailer, work on the Van, organize the garage, change the oil in the Bobcat and whatever else Goldie can think of that is more important.
