I’ve done some of the Echo cat mufflers.

Sharp chisel and picked out the slivers with a chain nose pliers.

I don’t remember what models they were.

The EPA has far overstepped their mandate. [emoji2959][emoji2959]

I did three of my Echo saws with a 1" hole saw. It took about one for each muffler as the cat really is hard stuff, as you encountered with your drill bits.
The one on the Dolmar 421 can be removed by grinding the weldments that hold it to the muffler shell.

The best way is to open the muffler at the seams and then re-weld it back together after you have removed the guts. But that would require welding.
Preferably TIG
But I managed to stitch one together with a small wire feed once. It was ugly but functional.
Probably not worth the amount of time it took me.

Would a cutting torch work to remove the cat? My dad has one; I have used a cutting torch before. With a cutting torch in my hand, just keep me away from Matt's place...:D:D:D

OMG……… Tom with a gas wrench!

IIWM (if it were me) I’d grind the edge of the folded over seem and then gas weld the seem back afterward.

But, I can’t, my regulators are junk and I can’t see well enuf.

Got a MS311 here needs gutted.

Went to my dad’s to borrow cutting torch. He said “I can get it out, blah blah blah!” A hammer, socket, chisel, and 20 minutes later, we had it out. I could have cut it out in about 2 minutes, but whatever.
