We had a great big Black Locust tree on our place when we moved here.
We cut it down, but the seeds seem to get everywhere. There are new ones sprouting up all over the place every year.
I reckon they work about like sin...
A friend of mine has some property, 40 acres, this is happening to his place. Sad really.

Black locust??

In Muskogee area?

Sure it ain’t the thorny variety of honey locust?
That’s what we have here..

I have seen exactly zero black locust trees here.

Good morning!
Had a change of pace last week. I got a call from Lowe Chevrolet on Waynesville to spend a week in their service department consulting and training. A good group of people there that makes their customer first instead of their bottom line.

Not worth a chit for firewood imo

Sent from Hoskey hilltop
Not too great..

But if’n I got a couple hundred 22” DBH sticks that could grade veneer, I’d be willing to burn the tops!!

The stuff does mill nice too.. the heartwood is pretty stable.

A few years ago I got up a pickup load of seasoned walnut from diggers_dad.
I liked it. It burned well, although it burned faster than oak, it put out good heat.
However, being the amature woodworker that I am, it gives me great pains to burn it.

Black Locust was almost eradicated around here in the 70’s & 80’s but I am starting to see more of it around. The CRP program helped its resurgence. It’s was considered invasive.

There was a program to plant it at one time..

Those DNR guys would have a person chasing after his own ass every 10 years with their “ideas”..

Kinda like “graze buffalo, cuz they’re more natural”..

when I was a kid in 4 H we planted Multiflora Rose , wasnt that a great idea?
That stuff was everywhere up in North MO where I grew up. It was a rabbit's savior when my beagle ran him into a multiflora rose patch as I wasn't going to drop him to where I would have to wade in to get him.

Someone might clear it for him if it's firewood size. Those trees are hard to work with though. There's really no good way to do it that I've found
Always let the saw chain throw the little spears away from you. Best way I have found.
