I found a cat brand drum for my machine near new for $18k I thought that was a decent price. Idk who makes it for cat? I’ve been toying with that this year for a business investment. That or the rotary style.

Rebuilding hydro fan motor now, and starting to smoke a bit. So it’s Probly due for an overhaul. Roughly 6800 hours.
Good machine though.

It does give you a little less lift capacity, but you just can’t hurt it.

I’ve been told by the guys around here that the drums are better for mulching near houses/roads. I’m looking more to reclaiming pasture land & woods.

Drums are nice..
They are slower/make finer chips/ and cost twice as much.
I like them... just not willing to pay $30,000.00 for one. They also take a lot more HP and a lot heavier machine to run.

Might as well have an excavator at that point.

The Portability & upfront cost makes the CTL with a mulcher more cost effective for smaller jobs. Lots of folks around here already in the game but there is a market for it considering the smaller footprint.

A 20-25 ton hoe with a Shin cutter cost 5 times what a CTL with a head cost.

Bradco was manufacturing CAT implements.

Big skid steer. The one pictured that we sold to a local farmer got put on an 8000 series Deere tractor. He was taking 12-18” trees out with it.

Dang, that's alot more than I figured it'd do. I guess the bigger the machine, the bigger trees it can pull. Pretty impressive!

Well yes. He did end up tearing up the quick attach on the Deere loader but rebuilt it better and it’s good to go. But didn’t even scratch this puller. Long as you can get to most of the roots and have enough tree for leverage you can get a pretty substantial tree out with enough time.

There were AM tracks on it when we bought it used. And we put our first set of tracks on it at 6,000 hrs. Can’t recall how many hours were on it when we bought it.
Rollers do wear out and are expensive to replace. But we put in the solid aluminum ones and have no issues with those.

We have one at work and the factory plastic/rubber rollers don’t hold up well at all. I could see the aluminum holding up decent in sand and mud. I’d still be curious how they’d hold up in rocks.

The rotary machines throw debris far and hard...
Lol sure don’t want to use them near people or buildings.
That diamond machine looks a lot like the Rut machine.. both seem pretty robust.
But yellow instead of black.
Hell, even the cutters are the same design..
Are they more? Or less expensive than the Rut?

Yes the rotary machines are throwers but it all depends on where you plan to use it.

I saw the other night that our water authority has a drum machine & one of their guys walked too close it it recently.

It threw a sapling section into his leg & he got to go to the hospital to get it removed.

All of them have are hazardous if not respected.


This is the first I’ve seen of Rut.

There are a few diamond dealers near me & they have a parts network in place.

I assume they are comparable in price.
