The first deer I took actually winded me and walked in about 80 yards straight to me. I could have knifed her in the throat as close as she was before I moved, she split, and the .303 Jungle Carbine dropped her about 70 yards away on a dead sprint. She went A$$ over tea kettles at the shot.

Your correct. I had an uncle that had a stump in front of his stand and he had an old McCullough chainsaw he’d let sit and idle there every opening morning. He always killed a deer within a few hours. Said deer were curious and wondered what the noise was.

When I went along with my nephew this past Sunday I noticed something similar.
There were 9 deer in the field in front of us. After he dropped the first one I thought they would scatter and be gone. Nope, they all stood looking in the direction the Deer had fallen. Some actually went over to check it out. That's when another one got dropped. Same story again. They appeared to be curious as to what was going on. It didn't appear that the report of his rifle was even heard because the others hardly moved. That's when he dropped a third one. All of this happened within 10 minutes after sitting in his blind for better than 3 hours.

I did the same thing with a bow last year. Dropped the first doe and the others went to see what happened to it. Got dropped too. Very curious critters they are.

Might as well hunt cows. More meat per kill.

Yup...
I shot one 2 hours after clearing 2 shooting lanes in the brush.. the saw was tossed in the brush pile I made from the trimmings..

They ain’t as delicate as some would think. A whitetail deer is possibly the most adaptable critter we got in this country.

Yep. Hard to convince anybody that we attract deer. When we go back to the timber the next day there are always deer tracks all over the skid roads. Turkey the same way.

I'd be willing to bet there's a few big city folks that couldn't tell the difference between a Deer and a Cow.
:confused::)
Grandad had a place on the current river.'50s, neighbor had a fire and Grandad let him stay in the extra cabin. Just a occasional weekender for any of us. Guy was keeping eye on the place and raising goats; none of which survived deer season. Some guy from K.C. tried to check it thru and had to pay the man for it.
A non-OSHA approved warning.

Thanks for telling the tourist and passersby to be careful of what they plug in and that they should keep hands in pockets so as to watch the Purdy flashing lights ONLY
Or something similar to that:risas3:

It is a mix of german and english.
Google translate returns this:
"Danger ! All tourist and nontechnical look people! The computer machine is not for finger poking and digging in the middle! Oderwise is easy to snap up the springenwerk, blowenfusen and poppencorken with top parking. Is not for trades with fools. The rubbernecken sightseeren keep the cotton picking hand in the pocketsmust. Zo relax and waddle the blinking light."

"An engineer that came in to assist on a project had a whole stack of non-approved warnings.
I had to snap a picture when I saw that one!

My grandparents spoke German fluently and once upon a time I was not too shabby myself, although I've lost alot of it, because it's been so long. I picked up pretty quick it wasn't German, but a hodge podge mix of the German and English, which is why I found it so funny. The German spin of the English words is pure gold!

It reminded me of an old 80's movie, where a character would be trying to converse with someone who didn't speak English, so they just started randomly adding letters here and there hoping it would be good enough.

Edit: Quoted the wrong quote somehow.......oops

Tasty critters there. They can destroy property in a hurry too. I'm in the middle of whitetail territory here in Kansas with two private places to hunt, but my bucket list hunt is to go after some feral hogs.

I remember reading quite a few years ago, that there was starting to be some feral hogs in SE Kansas. Is there any down your way?
