Another thought for Digger - Always try to have a few (various sized) wedges on hand. They're handy for several things including propping up a saw on an incline for a pitstop and making a temporary step in a tree (think spring board) to remove a potentially dangerous limb that's slightly out of reach on the ground. More importantly for felling and bucking large trees they're darn handy. If no wedges are available, any little twigs inserted in the kerf can be the difference when bucking between a pinched bar or not. A spare bar/chain is good but not getting the bar pinched is better.

Camping and or the retreat actually sound like a good time.

Use the maple...
I love a maple fire..

Did you see the big pile of uglies near the gate? It is full of maple and oak scraps/chunks/uglies. I get rid of a whole trailer load. Anything that doesn't get burned is left for the next group.

I never drop a tree without a hard hat on my head. Came by this the hard way when a high branch decided to give it up a try to take me out. Glanced off my head and bounced off my shoulder. I "came to" sitting on the ground with my hand 6" away from the chain on an idling saw. I was sore for weeks. I had the hat but was being stupid. Once the tree is on the ground the hard hat goes back to the saw box
Clear out an escape path before starting to drop
Carry wedges and a hammer with you. Comes in real handy if yer trying to fell in a different direction than the natural lean
Make real sure to not cut the hinge unless yer really sure what that will do. Did that once when I was overconfident and not paying attention and my tree fell 90^ away from the natural lean. Fell on a fence that I then got to fix
Take breaks, stay hydrated, intently study the subject before starting
Keep chain sharp and adjusted
in general, KYHOYA (keep your head outta your a__
More as they occur to me

Good thinking.

Morning Mike. Carl I may have a Swedish bolt for that husky. Text me later today and I will look .
Thanks Kenneth but I ordered one online along with a muffler brace. The Stihl bolt will do for test run.

Also ordered three kill switches as this saw has it missing and this is the third Husky/J-red that needed a new switch.

Run test when it gets light out.

And: Morning midlanders![emoji106]
