I had a gentleman call me up yesterday. Said he knew I was involved with cutting and delivering firewood to the needy here. He has 5 trees he needs to have cut down. 4 of them close to his house and leaning the wrong way. I politely declined.
I've had more and more call wanting trees cut down and I could have them for the firewood to be donated. But I have to haul off the trash. Even had one say I had to grind the stumps out too. Told that one " If you want professional services, call a professional." Hate to say it, but I might not do this anymore. Sick
and tired of people wanting something for nothing.
Rant over.
:)

I have learned, I have a few sentences i say up front now: If there is a house, fence, power lines, building, or driveway close by, I am out. I do not haul limbs off and I do not grind stumps. I don't take anything under about 4 inches. I will get your stump as close to the ground as I can. If I hit metal or rocks in the stump I am done, the stump stays at that point. Before I say "Yes" I want to look at the tree first.

How many cord you figure that thing gonna make?
Kenneth sent me pics of a biggun he was wrestling with yesterday too.

I suck at guessing anything. I am getting better at some things though. I have no idea. It looks bigger in diameter than the one Kenneth posted pics of; it would help if I knew the size of the bar Kenneth is using. There may not be as much wood as Kenneth's depending on what the top looks like. I have taken some pics and will post. Next time I am out I will try to measure the circumference.

Some pics. Don't do it justice. Will get better pics later for reference:

While it does not look like it, that top beam took almost all of a 28" bar to cut just above where the 2 beams split:

Here is Isaac standing relatively close to the trunk before I made a single cut. He is 4'7":

Got her limbed and topped. There is more bucked wood you can't see (not a lot though). The top beam is the one that took almost all of a 28" bar:

Side view and where I am at now. This was a blow down from a suspected tornado. There are many other trees also. This was the biggest AFAIK:

I also tell them if they need a professional I can give them a good referral. I have also told people, "If you use a professional, I may be able to save you some money by hauling off everything over 4-6" once the tree service has the tree on the ground and the brush taken care of."

I get 80-90% of my wood from a friend with a tree service. He calls me about a tree, I say yes or no. If I want the wood I go after work and buck it and load it until it is all gone. Sometimes he measures it and cuts it to size, sometimes he helps me load, sometimes he drops it off at my wood lot, I have even dropped my trailer off and it was cut to size and loaded when I went to pick it up. It just depends on the situation. If he can't get paid until the job is done he is more motivated to help me with my end. I help him a lot too; load limbs, undo rigging, loan saws, free parking of equipment at my wood lot, free building space, etc. He can bid a job for less money if he knows I am taking the wood, which helps him get the more work. He also has to pay to dump so it is a win win situation for both of us,,,,so far at least.

Since this is page 346, you guys won't believe this story..

I went to ft Scott and when I came home, I noticed a 346 on the bed of the truck..
So being a fan as I am, I tried to start it..
It would idle, but the throttle was stuck..
So I just set it aside.
A few weeks later, I get this box in the mail, and wouldn't you know it, there was a nice tank and handle in it for a 346..
Strange eh??
So today, I challenged Levi to a race of sorts.

I bet he couldn't replace that tank assembly in the time I took to sharpen the chain that was on the saw..

He took the challenge, and wouldn't you know, just as I finished that chain and took it off the grinder, he was flopping the saw back over ready for the bar and chain..

So we fuled it up and man, this thing cuts really good..!! It was even in tune..

Who'da thunk it..??

Lol

I could use it.:D:D:D
I could send it to ya...

The original owner probably don't need it.

Or the extra tank he has now, cause I was able to shake the broken piece of plastic out of it...

"That was a one in a thousand chance there"

But I got it to fall out that little square hole..
Levi just looked at me and said "no way"..

Evening all! I was going to saw a bit today, but the rain dictated otherwise. I've cut in the rain when I had to but I try to avoid the mess if I can... Oh well.
