Ya know, I knew I'd seen a picture of saws on a wall on this forum somewhere and couldn't for the life of me, remember where and couldn't find it after looking for days. I even created a thread asking for "saw rack/shelves" ideas, hoping whoever put that picture up, would chime in. Got some good solutions in that thread, but this is what I was after.

Well, this was the picture I was thinking of. You must've posted this picture, or one showing this same saw holding solution somewhere in this thread, because I remember it. Of course, I couldn't remember it well enough to duplicate it, but I remembered it enough to know it was kinda what I was after, being in a pole barn type setup.

I'm building a pole barn type shop, sometime in the near future and wanted to use this idea, since it seems to keep saws organized and out of the way and not sticking out into the working area of a shop, like shelves do, since I will be limited on space.

So thanks for posting this again, even though ya didn't know I was looking for it. Lol
You're welcome sir. I don't wander too far away from this thread so I don't see much that happens other than in here.

Question for the Ford guys:

Are the Ford V-6s (not the ecoboost) and Ford 4.6 V-8s good/decent motors? Looking for a truck for my youngest

Put a tarp over it to keep it from freezing.. Should make it through a 45 degree day if shaded no problem..
Age it as long as you can. DO NOT pull the inner tenderloins till at least 3 days. Longer if ya can. A week would be great if the temps will allow, but the first 50 degree day, you'll want to at least make primal cuts and refrigerate.
Judging by the weather guesser, you'll have to cut him up Monday..
Thank you buddy.
I'm thinking Monday at the latest as well.
We just got him hung up in the barn, so no sun's hitting it now.

I dont know much about ford's small gas motors other then my parents had the 4.6 in a Lincoln car and my dad has a V6 ecoboost in his f150 and haven't had any problems with either one now the big gas motors like the 6.4 in my f250 is almost faultless in 243,000 miles other then tune up and starter and I run it pretty hard

The 4.6 Triton is a really good engine. As far as V-6 goes the only ones I’m really familiar with are the 3.0 and the 4.0. Of these two the 3.0 is the better, longer lasting (if you keep the oil changed). They are known to hit 500k. The 4.0 is a nice engine though but they switched it to overhead cam somewhere in the early 2000’s. Stay away from those.
The later model “Cam Phaser” engines have one problem. The cam phasers. 99% of why they give problems is because the oil doesn’t get changed often enough and synthetic oil isn’t used. Phaser engines need to have oil changed every 3-4000 miles and only use a synthetic oil. The reason to use synthetic oil is because at cold temps it flows a LOT faster. Meaning the phasers get oil a lot faster.
Personally I wouldn’t get anything turbocharged.
Maybe why my newest vehicle is 22 years old.

What does rebuild mean in this case?
Pull the engine and take it down to its atoms. Check cylinder bore to see if it needs to be over bored and check the crankshaft to see it it’s still at standard size journals. If not maybe get it ground but prefer to put in a new crank. I’m not a fan of under sized journals. Check for cracks and clean, clean, clean the block and heads. The Triton engines are actually fairly simple once you get all the exterior stuff off of them and the block must be a high nickel content because my V10 had no cylinder taper and measured OE standard diameter with 430k miles on the engine.
The critical oiling point on the Triton engine is the cam chain tensioners. They operate on oil pressure and if one fails (leaks) you’ll lose your oil pressure. Once I get the block checked out and any work that might need to be done it’s a matter of reassembly with new parts.
Keep in mind that the Triton engine uses TTY bolts in the heads, main bearing caps and connecting rod caps. So they all need to be replaced too.
I prefer fel pro gaskets. It will get new oil pump, rod and main bearings, new rings.
New water pump, fan clutch, all hoses. Possibly radiator. New ignition coils and plugs. If the spark plug threads are ok in the heads I put anti seize on the plug threads and tighten to 15 ft lbs. Factory torque. Never had plug problems myself.
Interestingly at the Ford dealer my son works at literally all of the Triton engines that come in with a blown out spark plug had the plugs changed about a month earlier. Usually the owner changed them himself and over torqued the plugs causing the aluminum threads in the head to become stressed. And didn’t use an anti seize compound on the plug threads.

Yes def stay always from the 4.0. I’ve worked on a few of those. All of them had stretched timing chains. They were the overhead cam models. For the life of me idk why and engineer would make an engine with that many chains in it. Front and back of the engine had chains.

Good morning!
Looks like it's been pretty chatty in here. Took a while reading to catch up.
My wood stacks look OK for about a year then fall into piles.
Bryan, you might try loosening the fuel cap on that Craftsman to see if that changes anything.
I switched out some saws on the non-Homelite wall section the other day. A good portion of these were built in Springfield.

What is hedgefest
It’s an un-organized, get together, in the middle of nowhere, where a bunch of saw nerds meet up to eat and drink too much.. and run a bunch of saws racing or just general hacking of log fodder..
they are to gain “perspective” of just how what runs like compared to other stuff..

And fire pit discussions and such.. much like the Iowa GTG’s up at the Hoskey hill..
