Good evening!
I went and looked at some mowers this week.
Found a couple of possibilities.
One is a Scag Cheetah with 51" cut. 27HP Kawasaki. 262Hrs for $6500. This one is on consignment at the dealer.
The second one is a Spartan RT-PRO 61" cut. 26HP Kohler. 294Hrs for $4000. This one was just traded in, and is being sold as-is. It looks good, but has a broken piece in the linkage for the deck lift. Should be no problem to fix.
I am liking the Spartan with its simplicity. The Scag is a very nice unit as far as the ride quality and features, but appears that it may be a bit harder to work on.
I know Matt likes Spartan (if my memory serves me right). Any thoughts from you experienced fellas?

BTW we are mowing about 4 acres now, and some of it is very steep. I am looking at mowers with a wide stance to deal with the steepness.

Ferris makes a nice mower. On steep yards weight is your friend. You don't find many used ones people really Ike them.

Both of those units are good ones.
Both are top notch on side hills.

The Kohler will use less fuel than the Kawasaki.
Spartans are made just south of you in Arkansas.
Is the scag in so much better shape that it’s worth $2500 more?
Since you can go down to S&H in Mtn Grove and buy a brand new Spartan for $6000 probably.

I have heard of them before, but have not seen any around here.

I don't think the Scag is that much better as far as condition.
I have been told that the Kawasaki is a better engine, and the Scag also has much better ride quality. I don't think it is worth $2500 more to me though.
I like the Spartan better.

I am hoping to buy something in the commercial category that I can run until it is dead. My experience with homeowner style mowers is that they have no value no matter how much money I put into them. I think that if I can go commercial and am able to get parts, that I won't be throwing money away when I maintain it.

In my experience with engines kohler is a better one and uses less fuel
I’ve had 2 Kawasakis throw rods
I like my huskvarna Mtz 61” but ifn I was getting a different one it would be a hustler. They have torsion front suspension and way better seat suspension and grease zerks!

Friday at the cabin we finished up the largest and last tree pushed down by the excavator that terraced and put in my driveway\ pad on the property. 35 trees mostly into firewood.

Tied back to keep it from moving more while my neighbor finished cutting it up. The stump didn't move much at all after we took off the strap. Now we have a nice root ball for sale. You will need to bring your own equipment to load it and haul it away. :)

The Spartan uses all Parker drives. One of the reasons why I like them.
Exactly.. and awesome seats..

I really like the Hustlers too.

On ZTR look at the hydro drives .

Get above a certain level or they fail
