Jacob (Sawcrazy) came by last week for a visit. He got the grand tour. He left with a P-41 out of the goat barn. [emoji16].
Visited with Dan over the phone yesterday. He said to say hello to everyone.

Today, we attack the Red oak stash.

Picked up a 36” x 9’ stick from a brush hogging job a couple months back. Wasn’t fit to mill, so I hacked it into rounds right away to let the drying start.

Time to split it up and squirrel it away for future winters to come...

Morning everybody.
Good afternoon, Finally stopped to grab a pic of Pilot Knob MO civil war site. Notch up on the left is where the south fired cannon at the munitions bunker on lower right. Cannon in bunker coont fire that high. In the end dusted in Grey dirt 10-12 Union troops left thru the opposition while a Fuze or two burnt down to blow up the powder etc.20220220_143530.jpg

That looks good, how many cords do you have in there.

I don’t get into much Oak, I got about a cord from the State Park last year.

Splitting & stacking are the chit jobs, maybe if I had a faster splitter with a log lift I would enjoy the splitting part of it more.

Got a few cord in there,. The oak is my favorite, so I stash it away...

Hackberry, elm, hedge, and locust is everywhere here, so I got plenty of that.,

Thomas brought me some Pecan a year ago, so it stashed that away too..

Do you use that Pecan for smoking?

I have my eye on some dead standing Oaks but have to finish cutting Osage first.

We have Cherry & Mulberry in abundance to add to that list. Cherry is probably my favorite.

The neighbor actually had a couple Pecan trees on their farm but the nimrod that farms it had them dozed them out a few years ago. They had been there since I was a kid.

I have access to some white oak logs and lots of pecan and red oak. Why do you like the white so much more than red? Both are great for heat, correct?

I know you're asking Matt. White oak drys faster.
It’s got some properties I really like..

It burns almost as long as hedge.. Almost...

You can burn it at 1 year old, but it’s really better at 2 years CSS...

It makes excellent smoking wood and the smoke smells very good.

It catches fire faster than hedge once seasoned.

Last of all, you’ll haul out 1/3 the amount of ash and clinkers from the stove as opposed to my normal mix. “Hedge, elm, hackberry, mulberry”

Northern red oak is real popular cause it splits nice and dries pretty quick.. I’ve not found that to be the case of the southern variety. Probably because they’re some other “variant” of Red oak..
VERY wet and sour when fresh, and don’t seem to lose weight like the stuff we cut up north.
But once dry, I like it... The stuff I split up yesterday, will get 2-3 years to dry out. I’m still working on a 3 year old stack of fencerow salad that needs burnt before the locust borers turn it all to sawdust..

Another plus for the oaks as long term firewood, is our bugs don’t seem to like it.
They eat the *s-word out of locust and the occasional cherry I put up. They like the sapwood of hickory too..

The tim Allen 3750 200$
5200 with 32 inch bar 300$
4000 and blown one 150$ for both
2 3500s 150$ each.

All saws have bars and chains .

And I will have more.

I have a stihl 029 needs fuel line and oil pump line 100$ has bar and chain too.

This stuff belongs to Dustin Tinsley. He used to be on this thread awhile back.
He's selling off a lot of his saws. This group is all Poulan with the exception of the 029.
Should be able to message him direct through Facebook messenger. If not, let me know and I'll get direct contact info.
