I am glad July is over. It's been a rough one.
I've been absent lately but I have an excuse. Around July 1st my wife had a lot of abdominal pain and a trip to the doctor revealed a peritoneal cyst about the size of a baseball and the possibility of cancer. We went from his office to a specialist - then to a cancer specialist who scheduled the surgery ASAP. The cyst had grown to softball size. She had the surgery to remove the cyst on July 25th and although it was a rough surgery for her, all went well. Cyst removed without complication and no signs of cancer. The cyst was cantaloupe size when he removed it.
She has been recovering since the 25th which has put me in charge of nurse duties, meals, medications, scheduling doctor visits, kitchen, garden, housecleaning, etc... She has been doing pretty good today, although I am ready for her to be back to normal. Since she can't lift much or do a whole lot, that has put me in charge of gathering vegetables from the garden, processing and canning them. Ugh. This may be my least favorite part of the whole thing. Canning vegetables ain't fun and it ain't for sissies.
However, if you need any tips on canning green beans or squash relish feel free to give me a call.
