Are you OK?

Yes Steve, thank you for asking.
A girl cut me off in bumper-to-bumper stop and go highway traffic. About 30 sec to a minute later (after my blood pressure temporarily lowered) I had a 3-3.5 car gap between us. We were ranging from standing still to 30mph on a 2 lane highway heading South into Norfolk. I checked my passenger side mirror and blind spot to see if I could get over (2-3 sec). When I looked back, I hit her, knocking her Nissan Sentra into a Porsche Cayenne. No one was hurt, all walked away and all 3 vehicles were drivable. Unfortunately She was tailgating the porsche which helped to take it from a two car to three car incident. I was so pissed off I couldn't see straight.

Ultimately, the VA Statie who stopped was nice enough NOT to file a report or give me a ticket as there were no injuries, all vehicles were operable and he had two previously occurred wrecks pending. Since I was on gov't orders and I wasn't otherwise breaking any laws, it looks like the A.F. will pickup the tab (hopefully) as we're still going around with USAA over Shalie's 2013 Passat TDI which was totalled in a non-insured hit-and-run about 4 weeks ago. Beyond the already mentioned misfortune, since her car was caught in the EPA crap, the car booked out at 23K 14 months ago and now books out for 11.8K... I owe 11.9K and they'll give me 12.5K if I walk away or 10.8 if I keep it so we're talking with lawyer on that one as replacements in like condition/trim are selling for well over book at 14-19k.

If we keep it until around the end of the year, VW will be issuing two payments for those who wish to sell their cars back to VW: a depreciation payment of 6-10K and a clean retail payment (regardless of condition) of current market value. that should put us between the 17-22K mark for a busted car (which is technically fixable but will never be right, nor treated the same by insurance in the event of another accident)... And will pay off two other car loans in the process effectively freeing up around $900/month between full-coverage ins and payments though we will have to find her another vehicle so lieky the actual savings will be around $500 which is still damn nice.

And, shalie may have come down with Mono in my absence... Either way, Cobey has it a lot worse, but this crap is getting old... LOL

Good news there Jerry!

Did you know that: After discharge from the Army and you don't find a job you can draw unemployment.

No one wanted to hire someone with my particular skill set. [emoji879]
Yeah, I had to do that too. Plus we were all viewed as teenage killers. Just sayin

I love it when the stars align on a nice sharp chain. Cuts smooth, cuts fast, cuts straight, makes nice chips, lasts long time. If I could just get that every time, it would make me happy.

Yesterday one of the guys at work asked me if I ever had noticed the tatoo on one of the technician's arms and what It meant. It's a dagger with a line of skulls down it. Turns out he was a Navy Seal and it represents his hand-to-hand combat kills. We've got several ex-military in the shop with quite an array of prior talents. I'm convinced that it wouldn't go well for anyone that wanted to lay siege to the shop.

Morning midlanders!

Cool front rolled in here yesterday so it kept the high to 93 degrees.

We won't be that lucky today. Supposed to hit 97.[emoji37]

I am cooked. Cut and hauled off 1 large load of decent sized oak rounds. Loaded another load of oak limbs and a few rounds. I am telling my tree companies not to call until at least September, maybe October. Cramping in my toes, my calf, my back, my shoulder, my pecs. It ain't no fun when it is this hot.

Well, used another saw and chain today that was cutting like a dream. Getting near the end I put the chain in the dirt. Grabbed another chain I sharpened myself, and it wasn't even close to cutting like the other 2. It got the job done but not to my liking. Maybe some day I will get it figured out.

I like hand filing, but I use a Granberg for MUCH better results. I get much better uniformity and smooth cutting chains (assuming I don't hit the rakers to hard). If you don't have one, you might try it.

Speaking of which, Matt, do you ever use your non-race square chains for firewood or are thy just for GTGs?
