There is a little known about exemption box that you can check on your tax sheet to tell them to stick there health care penalty “ where the sun don’t shine”. because you couldn’t find affordable & acceptable coverage for yourself. Our tax preparer said she had to do a lot of digging but found it buried in babble & dropped that little gem (or rather large gem) on me while doing our taxes. We were in line for a $5k hit, $2500 each.
I have my wife and I, plus seven children (they cant get me for the eighth, because she was born in '18)...
When we need to go to the doctor, I pay out of pocket. It burns me a bit that I have to pay a fine for taking care of my own...

They have an option for religious exemption, etc. But I'm not going to play their game.
I don't buy the insurance because "I'm an American, and am free to pay my own bills".

I need a farm with a chicken and a corn plant.
Dad's neighbor across the county line ran cattle on his place while he worked as an engineer, north of downtown St. Louis. Bout 1100 miles a week deduction for travel between the 2 jobs. Retired from engineering and sold the whole herd. Now farms hay that other folks cut, bale & pay for.
I guess travel between jobs is still deductible at so much a mile.

The new tax code got rid of the "penalty" for not having insurance.
You won't have to worry about it next year.
It was an unconstitutional mandate for sure. Make America Great Again.. Lol..

I'm working on some new raised beds for the garden.
2" x 8" rough oak. 4' x 10', and planning to double stack them.
I was trying to come up with a joint that would be quicker to cut, but mortise and tenon seemed to be the best way to go for strength and longevity.View attachment 177254 View attachment 177255
Has anyone come up with something that don't rot and had success?

Medical coverage: We are fortunate (?) to be under Medicare and carry Humana Medicare supplement at $324/each. [emoji37]

Plus I get a form from the VA as proof I’m covered.

Another thing I discovered several years ago is Barbara’s teacher retirement is a “public” fund. Missouri tax on that is far less than the tax on mine (private fund).

Now they need to do away with withholding. Make the mindless masses actually feel paying their taxes.

A custom firewood business would do the same thing.
But you have to show a profit every now and then.
I was thinking of starting a lawn care business that doesn't "care" for that
purpose.

I made one out of cedar fence pickets. Had to over lap and double stack but its still together after 4 years.

Cinder blocks
That throws off the soil ph to much.

I have not. They come in something other than 1" decking?
1" stuff is not rigid enough to hold back 12" of rain soaked dirt for long.

Rip one in half and screw it to the bottom and top of the upright. There are more ways to create strength than just using a bigger piece of material.

I have extra taken out of each paycheck to Federal.

I am not convinced that this won't be the solution for me if I don't want to pay again. Hell, if I knew what they wanted, I would give it to them every 2 weeks. In a perfect world, we would be all square on April 15.

LOL, is that even possible in the firewood business?
Yes.. You show income only for a year, pay the taxes on it, then take 2 years of mega loss.

Gotta talk to a tax professional and get in the game!! How well you use the system is up to you.
