I have 3.55 gears in mine too. I didn’t want 3.73 or 4.10 gears with the power these trucks have it’s not needed unless you’re in these mountains every day with 10-18k lbs behind you.

Makes since hell if they offered a 3.00 ratio I'd take it. Thing that gets me is they all have the same final gear ratio. So really there just add more parts to the equation that can break.

they started them with all the accessories hooked up in 72. Before that is was motor only, with external water pump amd ever thing.
That is correct. Before 1972 engines were rated outside of the vehicle, no water pump, alternator, power steering or A/C.
72 and later were rated as installed in the vehicle ready to drive down the road .
If I recall correctly, my 1974 Motors manual specifies ratings at the rear wheel . With that being said, I have no doubt manufacturers are "bending " the rules on measuring HP.
I do know that Shelby measures each Mustang on a dynomometer for hp and torque before they let it go to make sure it's up to standards . Consulting with my son, he remembers the GT 500 as 650 hp at the rear wheels. I seem to recall the King of the Road Shelby at 750 hp. They also experimented with a new GT 350 and got 1000 hp from the new Coyote 5.0 engine. That one has not made it to production though. A car company in Sweden (Coneseg, spelling incorrect) uses their highly modified version of the 5.0 Coyote and is getting about 1100 to from it. But that car is currently in excess of a million dollars.

Thats lame

Shelby was the man and did it the right way.

And that Swedish company has been using Ford motors for a long time. I remember reading about him when he first started using the old 5.0

They have a 3.31. I wouldn’t mind having it for the highway cruising. I would get better mileage at 80 that way.

At over 900 lbs of torque, the higher the gears, the better.. And I agree about the Ford transmission being a better option than the Allison.
I think it does a better job accelerating a heavy load and shifts less once your up to highway speed.
Mine will hang in there on hills down to 1600 rpm before it ever thinks of shifting.

I hated the Allison shifts in my area. Curvy back roads with a lid and it would shift 3 times every curve. It drove me crazy with a bobcat or cattle trailer. I never owned a 6 speed Allison I could shift manually like this one or the 68RFE behind the Cummins.

I have 4.10s in my 05 Dodge with the 68rfe and get 21-24 mpg
I’m it would be even better with 3.55 but I’m happy with it.
After getting the tranny rebuild at 70000 by Aamco big difference. The guy at Aamco said his am parts are better than oem which is sad.
With the hub conversion and Banks bullet I like it.
Still would prefer the 6sp manual but.

You got the 48RE in the 05. It’s the 4 speed with lock up. The 6.7 has the 6 speed 68 RFE or the Aisin which is a stronger transmission all around.

I don't care to drive a truck every day (at least not mine). However, I do like to use trucks. The best trucks are the ones that do what you need done when you need to do it, and don't fall apart doing it; preferably with the least amount of expense; and, are paid for.

I've not been around the aisin much but I personally rebuilt my 68rfe and I have built several 47rh &48re in cummins trucks and I much prefer the 68rfe, weak link I've found is converted clutches and OD clutches.

I’ve not seen the inside of one either. It’s a medium duty transmission from what I researched a couple years ago when they first came out. I ended up with this Ford instead of another Cummins so I never checked any more.

I do know as far as running them tuned they couldnt get the shift programming to work properly over like 70-90hp on the aisin and I'm running near 200hp for now with my 68.

They finance the old magnesium. [emoji106]

As long as there is Stihl snobs.

029 all back together and run in some. [emoji6]. Chain is a POS and no other .063” x 3/8” on the pegboard. Not worth even trying to sharpen. [emoji57]
