Hay around us went to over 75.00 a bale. I wish I had some hay or lots of grass. Be able to buy some cows cheap.
At anything over $35 per bale, it's best to just sell cows. Depending on the size of the bale of course.
A neighbor is going to tarp a pile of straw bales and fog em with anhydrous ammonia.. He may regret that in a couple years.

Infuses an otherwise void of nutrition bale of straw with an easily digestible form of protein. "Urea"

Used as a cheap and effective source of protein in many feedlots and 50/50 grains, but not good for long term health of your mama cows.

I've never understood why some of the folks around here store their round bales outside. I realize they were designed to shed water, but losses in feed tons is between 20% and 40%.
If I fed 200 bales a year, I could pay for a pole barn to store them inside in 4 years.
I know guys that feed almost 1000 per year.
They could cut their use down to 600 700 per year if they'd just put it under roof.

Boys and I split for about 2.5 hours Friday. About an hour in I noticed hydraulic on the ram and beam. Traced the leak to the valve that operates the ram. The first pic is where it was leaking (the seal on the right as far as i could tell). Seemed like hydraulic was everywhere when we were done; makes for a slippery beam.

You make a good sales pitch. Start selling and building. What barn design would you build?

Nice barns! Would be nice to split wood out of the sun and rain.

Split all this Saturday. 20 totes loose.
