Hi everyone. Been doing a lot of reading on Homelites lately and curious from any collectors, owners, etc. That have ran the gear drive 900-990G series how they compare to other brands, any known issues that were common, and how they run, etc. Just here to learn about them. Thanks for reading.

Spent last night working on the scrap bin 650, got it all assembled & ready to attempt to start it, I couldn't track down any factory hardware so I went to the local hardware store and got what I could find, still missing a few parts like clutch cover and bottom brace, but it's assembled and hopefully a runner, either gonna do a full restore on it or make it a firewood saw.

I was getting ready to start the build and I was checking all the parts. After close examination of the piston rod I found the rod is bad. I will try and take a picture of it.Where the two half clamp to the crank shaft they are not flat. . This is hard to explain. A piston rod has been very hard to find. The search continues.

Sometimes the rods are fractured where they split instead of being machined

Most of McCulloch's rods are that way and some of Homelite's as well. They get a stronger "grip" that way and maintain the shape of the big end opening better.

Here are some pictures. The crank shaft and piston rod has stains on them from the needle bearings. I can not feel any distortion on the bearing service. I have ordered some wet dry 2000 grit sandpaper.IMG_6697.jpeg

I can use a lower strut assembly for 750 if you have one, even if it's broken.
I do have a lower rear handle, someone for some reason cut out the center, not much muffler protection or strength but feel free to message with offer
