I'm not sure how many hours a week you put on your saws milling but how long do they last on 32:1?
I have a 660 i dedicated just for a milling saw ,only failure i have ever had was a snapped crank ,it goes through a tank of fuel milling in about 2-3 hard passes which can be done in 10 min or so ,i run 32 to 1 ,and dual port exhaust to let the heat out .I keep the chain sharp enough the bar does not burn the paint off from heat .I also let the saw idle for a bit after a pass to let it cool down ,here is a mobil 1 plug ,it is wet from idling hybrid and 660 piston tops oil mobil 1 114.JPG

What do you normally tune that 660 to milling? 13400 or so?

I am not sure ,tuned by ear right now ,i just got a tach to mount to that saw ,when i cut i am rarely wide open ,the way the powerhead mounts to the norwood mill ,i just hold the throttle steady for the smoothest cut ,on the alaska mill it does not jump because the bar is clamped on the other end ,i am curious where it is tuned though .With the hard wired tach on my hybrid i hit mid 16k range when piss revved it ,and was getting around 11-12k in the cut when the chain was fresh in alder rounds if held wide open ,kind of cool being able to look down and see the rpm's now with a tach mounted on top .

When I milled with my 7900 I had to check plug color to make sure it was tuned ok. It's limited at 13.5, and that's about where I had it tuned, maybe a touch leaner but not much.

Not to get to fare off track but how does the 7900 do for milling?

I had a 24" 3/8 on it with an 8 pin rim. Rakers about 040. I could bog it if I wanted to. But it worked fine. Would have been better with 7. With a 7 pin and 040 it would have been difficult to bog it.

I tune a stock 7900 to 13.3k when milling. It's right under the limiter.

Mine was opened up inside but not cut, just base gasket deleted. And muffler was opened up. So we were both probably right on the money. Plug looked good

the amish loggers here log 6 days per week 8 hrs per day burning nothing but supertech at 40:1 with cheap pump gas.
many are still using there 371 and 394 huskys they bought new years ago with the minimum of maintenance.
why don't you pansys try it. i ran it my stuff all summer on it 5-8 gallons per week worth.

Lot of loggers here run it and there saws are clean on the inside but I don't think that means anything.
