It takes off pretty quick and smokes a quite a bit, once it first gets going but after it gets going it quits smoking and it seems to run pretty hot

The Loggers I know that use Stihl Ultra oil say their saws last about 1.5 - 2 years mixed at 40:1 - 50:1 with ethanol 87 octane. I wonder if they used a higher viscosity oil, like these racing 2T oils, mixed at 32:1 how much longer would they last?? Some Loggers have told me their saws don' t last 6-12 months on Stihl Ultra at 50:1. I've told this before but one Arkansas Logger said his 372's started lasting longer (almost twice as long) on Safe Guard 2T oil, cheap stuff, after changing from a 50:1 mix to a 32:1 - 38:1 mix. He also uses cheap gas (87 ethanol).

With all the people I have talked to about oil since I started studying 2t oils and testing them. There has not been even one person that has said that 50:1 of ANY 2t oil showed nice lubrication when the saw was taken apart. ie. nice oil on the skirts, on the crank, in the case. Not one!

It costs an extra 25 pennies per gallon of gas mixed to run 40:1 vs 50:1

Anyone that is too cheap to spend an extra .25 cents per gallon deserves exactly what they get with running 50:1 !!!

Interesting if that where ever proven it would make many question if the 50:1 push is epa related?
I would guess most saws sold are home owner, firewood saws and wouldn't be put to the work a full time saw is.

Run this @ 40:1 and call it a dayView attachment 13318
But at night you'd be cleaning the inside gunk out! lol
Run your bigger saws at 32:1 with it. I'm sure you'd never see much internal wear.
I'm wondering if there is such a thing as TO MUCH CARBON BUILDUP that will cause damage or an internal malfunction?

Loggers wear everything out around the motor not the motor itself
Most Loggers I've talked to said their saws stopped running due to lower end bearings failing. One Logger told me his new 461 lasted only 5 months on 50:1 stihl ultra.....lower end bearing failed.

If it comes loose it can scuff the cylinder walls

It doesnt build it like u think. It builds alil carbon on top of the piston when tuned properly and the oil combust completely like Mike said. The 800t built carbon on top of piston the exact same when the saw is tuned not overly rich. Only way to keep it super clean is to tune rich and never really get the saw hot enough to combust all the oil and it just washes the piston clean

Guess I could tune leaner and that would get me a dryer muffler....maybe. I remember you saying R50 was pretty dirty after only a tank. I have to help with several downed trees on my hunting lease this weekend so I'll be able to try a leaner tune with my 660 and 372. I'll update you with the results. I'm planning on noodling a lot but I'm sure that's nothing like milling.

A saw that has been in the woods for a year and a half most likely looks beat to crap and needs replaced any ways .
I'm not sure how many hours a week you put on your saws milling but how long do they last on 32:1?

Noodling is not as hard on a saw as milling ,you are ripping an easier cut noodling ,when milling it throws sawdust instead of chips .
