One thing I did that goes against some people's advise is go with a hyway windowed piston. They were so cheap I couldn't help myself. I've used a lot of hyway slugs before with very good results. We will see.....
Are they made like farmertec the ones the hyways I've used looked identical to ft .
I saw were.
heres a simonized fried 272 piston that someone posted.
and a new ft

I wonder how much a popup reduces a piston's weight? I do remember reading about the simonized piston thread where they weighed the pistons and they were saying the 268 piston is lighter than the 372 50mm piston. Someone also mentioned a 266 full circle windowed piston might be good to use as well.

Old Guy and others recommend the full circle piston as a torquey result. I was fully intending on going that route until the cheap piston deal popped up. (Pun intended) I saw that old as thread and figured it must work with the windows too.

I have a lathe but I'm just not interested in cutting bases and I'm just to cheap to get them cut. I just like to bring old junk back to life and nothen I touch leaves stock... Lol. Now machining a pop-up.... That I can handle. I'll leave the belt sanding to the pros.

I've had a few ft pistons and I have yet to leave one in a saw. In my experience which is exclusively with the 353 and 359 slugs, the hyway is far nicer. The ft piston pin and clip areas were sloppy while the hyway was marginally less nice than a meteor. I'll see what I have in my piston box and do a photo shoot..

I apologize for the different piston comparison. I thought I had a farmertec 353 piston but I have obviously misplaced it. So the two guinea pigs will have to be a 272 ft piston and a 55 hyway slug. I know the pictures may not do them justice but the hyway piston looks nearly Factory. The farmertec piston is far from it and I'm pretty sure I actually replaced it for a hyway after the jug it came with was so bad I couldn't use it.

I'm interested in seeing how this saw turns out, make sure you get video of it cutting! :)
Oh... I will.

I wasn't able to find enough documented info on this setup so that inspired this build. The lack of machining is just awesome. My buddy Issac that some of you met at the gtg is building one at the same time. He's a bit of a 372 fiend. Hopefully after this thread, someone will be able to build one with the info in one spot.

I hear my name mentioned way too much in this thread,I built one 372 like this & it runs fantastic, but I followed other instructions on this forum & maybe the other one, I'm in Texas rite now, away from my big computer, I'll b home in a few days & find my references.

So what is all done besides installing the 268 piston?

So the 268 piston fits right in except it hits the roof of the jug. A pop-up is cut on the piston to give correct clearance. Then a base gasket can be used to boot.

So in all actuality, some machining is necessary but not to the jug. I plan to cut the slug, get timing numbers and then plead my case to those who actually understand porting. If numbers are presented to me... I'll change port timing, widen stuff, advance ignition timing and give it a honkin big muf mod.

Lol. Don't get to excited.. I'm a hack.

I figured I could start blending and case matching... looks pretty crappy in the pic but it is just roughed in. I think it should work. Now it's in the bath. 20171128_200811.jpg 20171128_201330.jpgthe afterbath....1511919763774230230784.jpg
