Ok this one has me scratching my brain a bit I put a Walbro hd18b in my ported ms460 I put a .66 jet in it the low setting is pretty close to one full turn out from bottom that's perfect but on the high setting it's a half turn out from bottom my elivashun is right at 650 feet above sea level now I would still like to get the high setting up to at least one full turn out from bottom should I push my luck and put a .58 jet in it out of a hd50 carb because my dealer can't for some reason get a .60 jet if Walbro even made one that size? But mind you this saw runs darn good.

That carb is for a 029 super. The Venturi is smaller then a 046/460/044/440 carb. I think you’re going backwards using it.
The smaller Venturi causes the incoming air to move faster and pull in more fuel especially at wot
You’ll likely gain wot rpms and a better H side tune with a HD16 or HD17

There is a .60mm jet existing. Used on carburetors WJ-65 (064, MS 640), WT-323 USA (009) Part no. 1122 121 5608

Edit: Error corrected. Jet is not used on the canadian WT-563.

From what I read on the HD carb the hd18 has the same size Venturi size as the hd17a and hd16.

Thank you for the info my 064 has the .70 jet in it so it's good to know that I can go to a .60 if ever need on it and I'll probably be getting one for the 460 to should help if infact that the information I read on the Venturi size is the same size going to look again.or Canadian farm boy might kick me in a place that might hurt. Lol

The 17 and 16 run great at wfo and idle. However midrange seems to be a bit flat on them (when creeping up to back cuts 1/2 throttle making minor felling adjustments for example). On a ported saw this flat spot seems to be further magnified. After some investigation I came to the conclusion this is because of the leaner epa jetting (.34 vs .36) at midrange. I am led to believe this is to keep the epa happy when they stick there sniffer up the tailpipe. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Maybe this could be solved with drilling? Discuss... I’m interested. I haven’t experienced these issues in the pre epa carburetors nor the hd50 461 carburetors with the larger midrange jet.

To answer your question I just got off the phone with Lightning performance he asked me how was the saw at mid-range and throttle response with the hd18b well very good I'd say especially with a 063 gage 32" bar and chain it just needs less fuel on the high setting so sense now I know what he's up to and trying to do I'll keep you all updated on what happens when I get two more jet sizes I'm going to order a .58 and .60 and see what happens I think it's going to work very well this saw is buy no means a puppy dog it's got attitude.;):beer-toast1:

I don't know midrange jetting on hd14 but main is 0,72. It is 2 years on saw and I didn't tuch settings. When hd17 was on after few long cuts saw would go lean than fat. When I put hd14 on you cuold feel that she gain tourqe and midrange is excelent. There were no more problems with half throtle. Hd14 is arctic version I belive. Didnt take it apart but I belive it is not only midrange yetting it is neadle hole also.

Open the Venturi up, don’t give it less fuel. Give it more air
