The only rifle I had load for now is my 6.5 Swede. I used Berger vld’s as a deer load and the performance was so good I don’t think I’d use anything else.
I do get your point on custom tailoring ammo and for me and my 222 rem mag hand loading is the only option. Almost everything else I’ve found factory ammo that do the same job just as well.
When/ if I stop working 70-90 hours a week I’d like to get back into hand loading but for now it’s not in the cards

I feel you on that, some cartridges are still wayyy cheaper if you roll your own. .45-70 with pistol powder and my own lead bullets is about .25 cents a shot compared to $2.00 for the cheapest cowboy action load I could find on Midway.

That’s always interested me. Especially with my 444 using 44 magnum projectiles to load “critter getters”.
However the only factory ammo I can get it is leveroution and the cases are WAY shorter then standard so I’m worried my rcbs die set won’t work with them

I hear that. The little local shop by me has a great supply of just about everything. I looked on his web page to see if I saw Varget on the shelf. Pics were good enough I could read the prices. It was marked $25. Was over $50 now!
Things are in stock, the prices just suck. Primers went from 2.5 cents to 10.

The sizing die doesn't care how long the shell is and I'm pretty sure you can use the .44 magnum flare and seat/crimp die with the .444.

On a related note, I'm looking for a complete Glock 17 or 22 upper and would be happy to trade my Husky 440 in the For Sale section for one.

Low cost to some. We had one of those reels get stolen out of the yard at work, the deposit on just the reel was $750

Extremely heavy trigger pull over 12lbs but that's easily fixed IMG_20240903_143643.jpg

I'll have to say the SDS 1911s i have were the same price when i bought them as this and are far better fit and finished.

The SDS pistols that have come through my side job shop are easily the nicest cheap 1911's I've ever seen. We always sold out of them real quick. RIA is now making one that has the usual upgrades that most have for about the same price as the GI model. Beavertail grip safety, checkered front strap, and sights that look to be compatible with Novak to my eyes.

Latest project. MP5 clone, modified CETME C trigger housing with AR 15 hamer and trigger. The stock HK fire control breaks around 10lbs and is difficult to modify. AR triggers are easier. I still need to install a safety.

What's the advantage of an aluminum receiver over sheet steel? Just to be kewl?
I'm guessing he wants to manufacture an AK platform rifle. Start up cost of a cnc program vs. tooling to stamp and form? The aluminum would be easy to hold tighter tolerances vs. stamped tin, not sure if it matters.

Looks really good! I've always read that HK's are alot more challenging than other homebrew gun projects. Is that one blowback or roller locked?
