Those look like 4.8 pistons.

Aluminum block 5.3? L33? I think they were the HO engines. Iirc they came with flat top pistons. It’s been a couple years since I was right into the LS engines

Iron block 5.3 from a 2007 Tahoe.
This is avariable cam timing and cylinder deactivation engine.

I think that held true on the older LS but once into the gen III things began to change.

I've seen these pistons in lots of 5.3's when doing lifters.

A few weeks ago I decided that the Triumph I acquired needed far too much work and was better suited as a parts bike. Before I had a chance to sell it a visiting friend from Idaho saw it and offered me a trade that I couldn't refuse. I wound up swapping the Triumph and some work on his truck for this:
IMG_6235.jpegIMG_6236.jpeg

71 Travelall, 345 (I'm pretty sure), the auto trans was rebuilt shortly before it was parked 10 years ago, 4x4, a bit of rust like all IH's have, and the only missing parts are the headliner, rear light lenses, and the handle thing on the rear hatch. He didn't want to haul it up to Idaho from it's resting place 2.5 hrs from me, so it was a win-win. Ran when parked, we were in a hurry and someone left the cap off the primary tank so I didn't try starting it. I'm undecided on whether it could use a bit of a lift or not, but I'm thinking it'd be a pretty nice off-road camping rig. Also, he said at the 1st place he left it there was a matching pickup the guy told him he could have, so he's looking into whether that offer still stands. If the truck's still available I'll recruit a friend with a trailer again and pick it up too.

Started a new project today
A Frank N Truck A 94 Ford Superduty 4x4 frame, 97 5.9 Cummins and probably a 86 Chev Square Body crew cab.
I bought a bunch of parts from Diesel Conversion Specialists to make it go smoother. A friend who used to truck from Minnesota to Alaska was going to bring them up, but he got covid and had his CDL pulled after he recovered. @davidwyby helped me get the parts up by Pirate Ship to Haines Alaska where i picked them up.
Nice parts,i got the engine trans mounted for the first time today. I am sure it will be in and out a few times as i encounter issues. I have a junk cab to use for mock up no windows in it so i can stick the forks through it to move it around.
Supposed to drop to -40 ish tonight so inside work for the next few days, we had rain last weekend.frankstank 6.jpgfrankstank 5.jpgfrankstank 2.jpgfrankstank 3.jpgfrankstank 4.jpg

Very nice !!
How many hours would you say it took, start to finish, to port it ?

Did you machine the cylinder or the head ?

How’s she running and did you have to re-jet ?

Thank, have about 6 hours into porting, casting was pretty good. This my first Yamaha big bore, I do a fair amount of Hondas, and these set up different, so it’s going to take testing. The Yamaha has much lower transfers compared Hondas, i think it’s a case volume difference.

On these I use gasket thickness and the domes in the head can be changed to move the ports around if needed. I have a company that makes domes, I had two made for a .015 thick gasket and a .030 gasket.

I made a few heat cycles, and did some test pulls with the stock jets, it’s fat up top, and power is a little flat up top as well, going to rejet before I try the other gasket and dome.

I have a bunch of things to test, even have a powervalve block of to test, I may need a lighter powervalve spring, lots to tune, one step at a time.

What do you guys think of using Fluid Film to protect the chassis and underbody of a vehicle from corrosion? My understanding is that this is basically what Ziebart uses. I could get the spray kit, pressure wash everything, and soak it in this stuff. My Ford Ranger and Mazda 626 have alot of car cancer. I figure I would grind away the really bad stuff first.

Just spray it with used motor oil regularly.
