Im fixing a 262 that needs a case half. This is an oldie, one owner saw, with the non-decomp jug/87/crank drive worm gear.

I plan on replacing it with the drum drive oiler anyway, so the end result for the gear itself didn't really mater for me.

After trying heat and a lot of prying and cursing, I came up with this ghetto method that worked.

I figured someone can reference in the future for help on a build.

Mattyo also told me the recipe for pulling the oiler gear. Cost about 20$ in stuff and i have used it once. So @drf255 I think you when the cost factor but my gear was reusable. Nice remedy you came up with though.

My damage was from the prior attempts, not this one.

I think Mattyo's is a way better idea though.

I have the Husky puller for these. It's not very expensive, and is a good addition to the tool box. Remember though, the 51/55 uses a gear like that too, and the pitch is different. So, two tools are needed.....

Me too. It's handy. Personally I prefer the full time oil pump. So I want to save that gear .

Yeah. Sure. Let me know how that works out.

You remember me having to have the rivet setting tool for my sickle mower. I could have used a hammer and an anvil. But noooooo

That's different, you use that. I'm talking about the stuff that hasn't move in 15 years.

The Husqvarna puller is cheap enough. It also doubles as an installer. I'm a tool junkie as well as having CAD. If you serious about working on saws, you'll start picking up the specialty tools little by little. They are not always necessary, but do make some things easier.
