This genre of little MACs are sturdy saws. PITA to work on, tho. Recoil and case halves have to come off for fuel line replacement. And don't pinch fuel lines when halves go back together - been there.

I have the same saw on my bench right now. The oiler is shot. Looks like a complete tear down to change it. I'll be eating some of the labor. No way I can charge full price for the repair. This is why I hate homeowner saws!

Oh man that little mac just turned into a huge pain in the @$$. Got it all sharpened and made a cut and no bar oil. Got to split the plastic case to get to the rotten oil line. Oh well gives me something to tinker with i guess.

That's the problem with the mini mac, almost anything you do to the saw requires that you take it all apart. There are a few other homeowner type saws that are like this but the mini mac is probably the worst.

So I was at the flea market today and a guy had a clean husqvarna 555 xtorq autotune and wanted $250. I'm not too familiar with that model husky, seemed like a good deal.

Did I miss the boat? I didn't have that much cash on me and I'm a little strapped at the moment (making settlement on my new house this friday) I'm kinda kicking myself as I feel I could've gotten him down closer to $200 and flipped it for maybe $400? But I'm not sure what the market is for these.

I believe a 555 is a detuned 562. No case stuffers

Don't know if this is really a garage sale fine but I got a 015L and an 036 from the dump. The 015 just needed a fuel line and to put the handle on the recoil. The 036 needs a few more parts but for about $160 in parts it's still a fair price I feel.

Flea market season starts this Saturday, I'll probably be out there hunting but I'm gonna be a little more selective this time because I already have a gob of saws that I'll probably have a hard time moving. I bought some of them to sell last year but they didn't sell..

If it cuts a months worth of logs then its paid for its self i guess !
Those saws are a bit troublesome to work on also, Oiler is tucked in behind the flywheel on that model, plus you have to split the outer case to get to it...

Been there, done that. Mostly when I was first afflicted with CAD, and I ended up with all kinds of Homelites, and McCullochs.

I go to a lot of garage sales, yard sales, tag sales, porch sales or whatever you call them where you're at. I've rarely seen chainsaws for sale. I have picked up saws at estate sales occasionally and sometimes at pawn shops, but most of my saws came off Craigslist. I've been unable to find the kinds of deals some of you encounter. I have found that the best deals at pawn shops are pro saws. ie, a Poulan Wild thing will be for sale for $149 and they may have a "good" saw for the same price. The key to finding good deals is knowing what saws are worth and having cash available to "act now". Good deals sell very quickly. There's some wonderful finds in this thread.

I don't see many saws at yard sales but I've gotten two. This one (the Clinton in front)

This one, which was sold to a member here.

On those Mini Macs you might be better off to block the impulse and just use the thumb oiler .
