I spent some time working at Langley a couple of years ago. Stayed in Rockville. Holy horrible traffic. Makes Pittsburgh look like a 2 lane country road

I have never been to DC and I never will.
The rural school districts in our area pool together and have a week long trip to DC for students after they leave the 8th grade. It is far from free but is worth the investment for parents so they can provide their kiddos with a experience. Of course not all students choose to go and not all parents can afford to send their kiddos. There is a bit of a "secret slush fund" to help out those that really want to go but are not financially able. There was no doubt we wanted all three of our sons to go and we planned well in advance. They all still have great memories of it.

To me it was the best money we ever spent connected to Washington DC

It’s only gotten worse. If I have meeting in Northern Va, depending on the time of day, it can take me three hour to make it back to the north side of Baltimore - maybe 70 miles on an interstate.
I feel like it’s gotten much worse since the key bridge was hit. I’m grateful I don’t have to make those trips too often anymore.
