Miss Middle Child and I had some free today so we got the splitter out and got after some rounds.
There were only a couple dozen rounds in the trailer but I need it empty to use for stuff Monday so we split them up. She was a trooper and kept jumping into the trailer to drag them to the back. She ran the splitter lever when she was on the ground. She also backed the splitter around a 90 into the spot it’s in on the first try. She’s getting pretty good st stuff for being 10.
Working my way back clearing the road. So I can just run through with a small disc to knock the brush down a little.
This top branch is the 4th I've been gifted by this tree.
It used to be the tallest in this area of the woods. Pretty sure I posted it the last time I was cutting back here. Someday maybe I'll take it down. Clearly not in a rush here.
They’re just little 4x6’ bales compared to the 5x6’s out there. These corn straw bales weigh around 1400lbs each.
I know several people with bale burners heating their shops and other farm buildings so it’s not really an off topic post at all. They’re just a different sort of firewood
These will all be used as cattle bedding. I’ll go through around 800/yr.
Texted pictures to my wood fairy this morning. He texted back and had this load of hackberry for me to pick up. Made them do the hard work of loading the liftgate so I could move it around in the truck. Win, win for all.
Crazy busy weekend - reffed 10 hockey games and delivered (let's see): 1/4 cord of oak Friday night; 2 separate half-cords of birch plus 12 bags of mixed hardwoods plus 10 bags of oak Saturday; 10 bags of oak in one place and 5 in another on Sunday. Everyone woke up on good Friday & decided it was firewood time I guess!
Splittin’ w/ dad yesterday, got 90% done and I throttled up to full. I typically knock it down from max a tiny bit. Only took about 5 minutes and BAM.
Glad neither of us were on that side! Ripping hot hydro oil sprayed up and everywhere. Just got a light spray.
We just quit but I think the filter just came loose. It was too hot to mess with.
Why’s my 60 year old body still listening to my 30 year old mind???
