Just worked by this storm-fallen Hickory; trying to get rid of it because I have no space for it. :(

As fallen:

As stacked up with some previously taken down Hickory:

I've offered it to two BILs and one neighbor; no takers, WTF do I do?

Had a great late-Feb to mid-March pulling ash out of the forest along the river. Still a bit to split; need a good long day or two. Then 30 cords of birch to get through; then 40 more of oak.View attachment 454648

This is free for the taking. 10 miles north of the AL/TN border near I-65. I can load onto your truck or trailer (preferrable). A mix of White Oak, Sassafras and Shagbark Hickory.

Come and get it.

Proud dad…14 year old & 12 year old went out last night and stacked for 2 hours while I reffed a couple of hockey games. Had split about 2 cords yesterday & they stacked it all - raising good little workers!

Got some cutting done Friday evening and Sunday on the log pile as the bush I’m in working in now is soup.
You can see the change in colour from when I started on it, I would guess around 8 cord. Some of the nicest hard maple I’ve worked with in years.

My last house had a black locust and a honey locust....I don't miss those trees at all!! :D
Yeah, these were black, and only had the little thorns. We have a fair amount of the super thorny (3"-4" long) honey locust as well. Most are in the wooded areas but there are a few out in the open that you stay away from when using tractors and ATVs. I'd actually thought about dousing those in accelerant and lighting them up where they stand, but the older folks tell me the thorns will still be viable long after the wooded portions are ash.
Aside from dropping them and carefully raking the area I'm at a loss...
