We got a sh*t load again today. Some trees were already dragged out for me to cut up when I got out there early this morning. I ran both my scarr 550xpgs, my XS 400c, and my oldest scarr 572XP. I got 4 loads hauled home which I will bring to my cabin. The dump truck load count is at number 35 when I left.

Back at it again today. We're almost halfway through clear cutting the oaks on this property. The skid steer blew a hydraulic hose after I left yesterday. So we can't load the dump truck. My coworkers cousins are also taking wood for their boilers. They have a little tractor and a dump trailer. The picture of the dump trailer will be load number 9 for them. I got one load for myself. I used my newest scarr 550xpg, my Tree Monkey 400c, my Stump Shot 572XP, and my scarr 592xp.

Weather is perfect this time of year…slightly below freezing so I can run my 6x6 on the river still & very comfy to work outside. Been able to pull a couple of cords out in the last week or so. Found a big burger for my 17 yo as payment for his help yesterday.

I got two loads cut and hauled out this morning. I just cut limbs using my scarr 4350 and my oldest scarr 550xpg. With the warm weather we are getting in the afternoons you have to get cutting early in the morning when it's below freezing otherwise you risk getting stuck.

Oh man what a day in the forest. Found a MASSIVE green ash fallen. Likely cut close to 3 cords today between that tree and a few others close by. Ran the MS 400 and 390 XP probably about equal time today, both with new chains. As much as I have loved running the 390 lately I cannot believe how favourably the 400 compared. I am blown away. Lucky to have both working well! Wonderful day with my two sons loading wood into the 6x6 and taking loads back up to the house. River will thaw soon so not too many more days like this for awhile. Prob have about 8 cords of ash to split, plus 30 or so cords of birch waiting to be split. Sigh.

We got after some fence line stuff yesterday.
IMG_3248.jpeg

Lots of trashy wood but it’ll burn !!
IMG_3249.jpeg

Plenty of hard leaners to throw wrenches in things.

I got to use one of my favorite cuts quite often. Cut the wedge, bore in and work backwards. It does a really good job of preventing barber chairs.

Here's a few pics of the oak I made a deal on. Guy bought some farmland with a few trees and is clearcutting the trees to maximize his acreage. His track-hoe literally uproots the trees and lays them down. Then he hand-trims branches & cuts the logs to 200 inches. Kinda sad to lose trees for farmland but it is what it is. We are definitely gonna be making quite a few trips with the dump trailer to pick up this wood.617B1277-1BD2-45D6-85DE-E9FB223A357A.jpeg

In between working on storm cleanup cutting trees and limbs out of fields and off of fences, I've been trying to work on the firewood stash some too. The big hickory came down in Helene, the cherry in the mid-February ice storm that wreaked havock here.

These two storms have "blessed" us with enough firewood for several years, without having to fell another tree. It's discouraging just to walk through the woods. But of course, time will erase most of the damage.
