I'd stick with locust.
Locust is rare around these parts...I'd stick with locust.
Hey Studs,
Wife & I did some quick fireworks scrounging. Found some pig nut hickory, locust, hackberry...
Also stumbled upon what I thought was a dead down black locust, but after the wood chips commenced a flying, it appears to be something else.
Any ideas...red elm, red maple?
Doesn't resemble any red oak I've ever cut.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

On my FB page...I've gotten red elm, hornbeam, yellow locust, and iron wood thus far.I've seen oak that looks like that. Not red maple. At least around here it'd rot before it ever got like that.
Did it cut like rocks? The locust I cut that looked like that was a chain killer. Measured 12% in the middle of the trunk. On my FB page...I've gotten red elm, hornbeam, yellow locust, and iron wood thus far.
It cut kinda gnarly...yet not as bad as locust or osage.Did it cut like rocks? The locust I cut that looked like that was a chain killer. Measured 12% in the middle of the trunk.
Did that big root ball tip back in the hole after you cut it? Wind storm tip it over?
