I happen to have access to Wi-Fi tonight, so I uploaded a video of splitting wood with my Gransfors Bruks splitting maul. The round is a 750# piece of red oak that's 42" in diameter. 6.5 rounds like this would make a full cord of wood by my math. I did pretty good, but after watching the video there's plenty of room for improvement. I should have started making a grid earlier instead of after about 4 minutes.

I should have edited out some of the time and left the cooler parts, but i haven't figured that out yet.

It's a 4,500lb Thern winch mounted to a 4" Bullard, it straps to another tree.View attachment 57059 or it can fit in a receiver hitch. It has an auto brake on it so you can lower 4,500lbs with it as well. You can let go of the crank at any time of the pull or lower and it never moves. I have pulled some very hard leaners completely backwards with it.
I also have some other blocks that I have used from a third tree or truck to get better direction of pull.
My brother told a tree trimmer buddy of his that it was a boat winch, although it could be used as one it is far from your typical boat winch. This winch was $685 for just the winch (no Bullard) before shipping and the braking factor is what makes this a safe unit, there are no switches or levers to operate. You can literally operate it one handed with little effort.

Well guys my dad had a big nasty maple brake off half way up the tree....it was mostly big stuff so I got out my beloved ms461 with 25" bar....I put on a freshly sharpened RM chain and got at it....my dad took a video of me cutting, but I don't think he knows how to send it to me LOL....

I tell ya guys, it's amazing how easy the maple is to cut....I am used to cutting oak, Osage, locust, hickory, so this maple seems so soft compared to them.....it's no wonder guys that cut a lot of different kind of pines can run the long bars......

Nice 12"- 16" fir that blew down in the Tillamook forest. Takes about 45 minutes to get a full truckload!

That's just a tick over 1/2 cord of Hedge in that trailer (and my little Brother sitting in the bed). It took us 1.2 hours according to the Hobbs meter to do it and that was taking our time while learning how to use the machine... The Special Edition is DEFINITELY a keeper!!!

Nope, that's my almost 14 year younger Brother. He digs the Fro. I'm normally rocking the high & tight or nearly bald as I could grow a hell of a wig, but the A.F. frowns on such things...

Say a word on that soft maple yard tree .Don't fiddle around with it .Get it split and stacked off the ground .Either cover it well or use it quick because if not it will be growing mushrooms .It doesn't weather worth a hoot .

Yes, soft maple is a funny wood.....it's super easy to split, dries fairly quick when split and off the ground....burns quickly too....

This tree was in my dads yard, and needed hauled off....if my house wouldn't have been close we would have just burned it, or let someone have it....I have to many spots were I get hardwood, that I luckily have became a wood snob LOL.....if it's not ash, hickory, oak, Osage, walnut, locust, etc I do t even pick it up!!!!

It's kind of funny when well-meaning acquaintances offer you "free" wood and you turn them down, because you have better prospects simply waiting for your efforts. I'm pretty sure I've accidentally offended some people that way when pressed as to why I don't want to f-word with it, piss elm, Cotton Wood and Silver Maple being among them, though the Maple is nice shoulder season wood.
