But, suppose it's all cut too short, say 6" to 7" rounds and nothing longer. How on earth do you process chariot wheels into firewood logs? I have no solution to that.
Chunks like that get thrown in their own pile to season, then when brought in, are separate from normal length splits. They help pack the stove if any splits aren't full length, or to sustain a low temp burn during shoulder season. Just throw a couple in at a time.

They get split and tossed into a super sack. Good for making syrup, or for spring/fall burning when I just need a small fire.

Great advice from all. Yes, I do the same thing with the chunkies, but I can never sell them along with a load of logs. One customer threw them all back into the truck bed after I tried to include them along with the regular 16" to 18" lengths. Then he demanded a discount. Needless to say, I no longer supply him with anything.

I keep the oddball pieces aside. They are usually the first to burn the following year. Or I burn them in fire pit in summer. They give good heat, Just hard to stack neatly. I throw them in a square pallet box bin.

About 1/4 of the wood we burn at home is “hunks and chunks” . Anything with a crotch, rot, branch, under 12”, or just plain ugly gets tossed in the gator bed and stacked in our woodshed.
Only the best for the Customers.

I end up with plenty of coasters too. For anything under about 6” diameter, my length calibration is off. My splitter operators calibration is bang on so plenty get tossed back for a trim.

Not sure what is going on with cherry trees as of late, but they are the most prevalent tree I have been cutting. Weak root structure? Root rot? Or just weak wood.

Fabulous woodworking medium. Here's one of several cherry toolboxes that I made, perhaps my favorite:

A little bigger, and I like this one just as much:

It was great hobby. Strong box joints are not that easy to make and that is why you seldom see them.
