Had a chainsaw fella look over an echo cs 900 evl on EBAY and had inquired me about it. Figured I'd post my observations, to the greater Echo chainsaw group. Rather than advice to an individual, it'd be best to share my opinion of the saw.

Just read forum member woodslasher's shtty chainsaw ebay deal, to get an idea how far some sellers will go to play stupid about saw damage.

To those interested jn this recent 900 evl, I'd pass on the thing. The seller wants $950 for a damaged saw and isn't disclosing his half-assed over spray job hiding the snapped off chain brake, nor the missing tank vent. The broken top cover has been flushed up to appear as good condition. It's a "running" parts saw at best, and yall will never get yer money back.

Ive circled in blue the damage and/or missing parts. Nice orange paint though, wow good color match!

I picked this saw up several years ago, not sure what happened but it had very low hours and even lower compression...piston was toast.

I bought a new piston, cylinder, seals, manifold, etc. from Traverse Creek (AKA The Duke) and finally got is all put back together.

The original cylinder was not bad, but since I'd already purchased the new one I used it when putting this one back together.

I already have a 2511T worked over by MWEBA so this one will be on the "For Sale" rack for now anyway.

You have an unnervingly orderly way of taking a saw apart and making it look new again. Awesome work!

An echo cs 680/670 filter fits the cs 8000. The HDA 45 carb is larger, so will have to open up the filter base where it attaches to the carb. The filter cover sets about 1 inch higher. Shouldn't be too hard to fabricate an extension.

Great info. The antiquated 8000 filter setup has been an Achille's heel of the saws.

Yep lotta wood dust down in the carb tray. I'd like to mill with this brute, and flapper filters are garbage.

After porting and the larger hda 45 carb, I also upgraded those pathetic felling dogs.

This should fix my last issue with the saw.
